Last week we announced that the team from Behaviour was visiting and that they had been tasked with building the Stanton System. Today we’re going to show you the first work they’ve done, an initial “pre-viz” of the landing sequence. A previz, or pre-visualization, is a technique used by filmmakers to plan out sequences before production begins on sets and effects. It is a sort of cross between static storyboards and moving pictures, combining storyboard images with the effect of motion and time allowed by video.
The video shows the first planet to be developed in the Stanton system, homeworld of ArcCorp. ArcCorp builds ship engines and this may prove to be a great place to pick up a new powerplant for your ship… factory fresh! Please note that this is VERY preliminary work. It’s designed to allow the team to understand how a ship landing will work and is not necessarily an indication of the visual style or the design of the game. We plan to “check in” and show you the work Behaviour is doing on Stanton several times in the coming months, and this is the first step in that process! We’re excited to see how the system evolves into a finished map and we’re looking forward to sharing that with our backers. With that in mind, here is the Standon previz:
