Losing family in one of those attacks left him scarred and driven. At seventeen he enlisted in the UEE Marines, refusing ever again to be powerless. His neural‑compatibility scores were extraordinary, earning him selection for the Synapse‑Link Combat Lattice program, where augmentation fused instinct with machine logic and turned him into a weapon able to command exo‑armor, turrets, and heavy systems with thought‑level precision. During the Valkyris Break, a Vanduul ambush shattered his fleet, and WONIG used his neural‑link to coordinate defenses, stabilize the line, and save thousands. After the war, High Command awarded him an Idris‑class frigate, which he rebuilt and named Mercenary Star.
