EST [1877]

The Interstellar Adventure Society is a fellowship dedicated to supporting those brave beings who seek the hidden truths all along the periphery of the known universe.

The Society seeks to encourage cooperation, hospitality and friendly competition amongst its varied membership.

History

Originally established in 1877, the Society of Gentleman Adventurers ( as it was originally coined ) has sought to champion proper hospitality as well as friendly competition amongst its members. In the turbulent times of Victorian and Edwardian Terran history, the Society’s counted members from nearly every nation of the world – defying the typical habit of putting one’s nation first. By the dawn of the 20th century, the Society had already extended its membership to women as well as men; an appropriately forward change for a group founded on the principles of seeking knowledge in all its forms and in any place it can be found.

By the mid 20th century, the Society ( now known as the World Adventure Society ) had sought knowledge in all the dark corners of the world, all the while its members sharing knowledge and hosting one another in their travels with no regard for the turbulence of the world’s nations. With time the Society established a formalised series of chapter houses in both major cities and locales of specific interest.

Whispers tell that the founders of the Society were obsessed with seeking evidence of hidden histories not known to the world for millennia; proof that the legends whispered around the collective hearths of humanity had a basis in the truth. Even more so, some believed that there were others who already knew some of these truths and they were deliberately hidden.

By the sunset of the 20th century, the Society had slowly transformed into an organisation dedicated to sponsoring archaeologists and others who sought to document history off the beaten path; those academics blacklisted for their disruptive theories found a home with the Society.

With time the Society withdrew into a core membership, as eventually the Earth seemed wholly explored. With the advent of the Quantum Core, some Society members were amongst the first to step foot on Mars and other places in the Sol system, albeit with little public knowledge of the now relatively obscure Society. It was not until the discovery of the first Jump Point that the Society truly took the first steps in its current path. With the dawning of interstellar travel, the newly christened Interstellar Adventure Society struck out amongst the stars to seek the new truths of the universe.

Having discovered that it was simpler to operate within the margins of society rather than openly, the Society has not advertised its existence over the centuries; this has allowed it to maintain its neutrality in a great many affairs – advantageous when you need to visit places otherwise restricted to those of the wrong creed. In the most recent of times, the Society has sought out those like minded beings of other species who might agree with their philosophies. Often these beings are also along the margins of their own cultures, but this works quite well for members of the Society who prefer to remain under the radar.
