Astral Zenith Exaction Guild began as a respectable mining outfit with a simple dream: extract rocks, file reports, and not get shot. Unfortunately, the universe disagreed. After their third “unexpected cargo redistribution event,” AZEG made a small policy adjustment — if someone touched their ore, they became the ore.
The turning point came during what corporate records now refer to as a “hostile audit engagement.” A rival crew attempted to seize a claim. AZEG responded with enthusiastic feedback and discovered two things: salvage pays better than lawsuits, and lasers solve most disputes. The Enforcement Wing was formed shortly after, mostly because someone had to invoice the wreckage.
In the aftermath, AZEG leadership convened its first official board meeting inside the still-cooling wreckage of the opposing vessel. Minutes were recorded. Mostly because someone insisted we needed “documentation for tax purposes.” It was there the Guild formalized its new operational philosophy: proactive deterrence through overwhelming enthusiasm.
Recruitment standards evolved accordingly. Prospective members were required to demonstrate basic mining competency, advanced situational awareness, and a healthy disregard for conventional conflict resolution. Performance reviews became straightforward — if you returned with ore, you were commended. If you returned with additional ships, you were promoted.
As operations expanded, AZEG refined its internal vocabulary. “Ambush” became “market correction.” “Boarding action” became “hands-on asset verification.” “Running away” became “strategic repositioning for future revenue opportunities.” Clarity is important in any professional environment.
