BirTo as a company can trace it’s founding to the late 21st century during the golden age of Martian settlement. By the 2080s Birchler Habitats was the premiere provider of turn key habitats to homesteaders across the American, Canadian and EU colonial concessions. Tolley Automation had been an early enabler of the second wave of colonists thanks to their initial blanket patent on fully self-replicating manufactories but was in steep decline by the 2090s due to rampant maker piracy. Birchler Habitats and Tolley automation began a joint venture redirect carbonous chondrite asteroids to Mars following the passage of the Martian terraforming referendum of 2094 eventually leading to their merger in 2099.

The company earned its reputation for somewhat extreme tactics during the Martian trade crisis of 2110 during which time Airbus was granted exclusive trade licences to the cis-Martian space, many of the records were lost from that time but Airbus losses were so extreme that they were driven out of business by 2130. The loss of colonial revenue is now often cited by historians as a contributing factor to the second EU civil war.

Today BirTo is the premier provider of hard to find components of volitiles for terraforming efforts across human space.
