History
The roots of Big Pharma lie back with the apothecaries and pharmacies that offered traditional remedies as far back as the middle ages, offering a hit-and-miss range of treatments based on centuries of folk knowledge.
The industry as we understand it today really has its origins in the second half of the 19th century. Whilst the scientific revolution of the 17th century had spread ideas of rationalism and experimentation, and the industrial revolution had transformed the production of goods in the late 18th century, the marrying of the two concepts for the benefit of human health was a comparatively late development.
In the 20th century there was the adaption of paramedicine to help apply for life saving intervention anywhere a person may need it. Over time the response times and development of better pharmaceuticals have helped to manage injuries, illness, and prolong people’s lives when needing transport to medical centers. With the introduction of space travel this response time was slow and the ability to stabilize patients in a fast moving, often rattling ship was a task was daunting to say the least.
Big Pharma led the way in adapting any ships they could get their hands on and retrofitting them to apply the best levels of care at the time. They did this with creating stabilization systems for medical personnel and stabilized beds for patients, working with BiotiCorp for the first AutoDoc Intensive Care Unit. Through the centuries Big Pharma has been at the forefront of adapting medical modules for the RSI Apollo, RSI Galaxy, Anvil Carrack, Anvil C8R Pisces, Aegis Javelin, MISC Endeavor, Drake Cutlass Red and other ships through the centuries. Big Pharma also worked with CureLife in the development of Demexatrine, Sterogen, Resurgera, Hemozal and Roxaphen and the “Pen” injection system and later the ParaMed medical device with Pancea MedGel.
Big Pharma has continued tirelessly working to help the ‘Verse excel in the medical field behind the scenes with in house R&D, consultation and partnerships with other medical institutions. Big Pharma has small crews for contract in Rescue Response, Asset Recovery, Medivac and S.O.A.R operations, that utilize state of the art equipment and resources. Crews consist of prior UEE military combat pilots, medical technicians and engineers to ensure that the mission always gets completed.
