We are the black sheep. Pilots, contractors and drifters bound by crew, not flags. We take the jobs others won’t, go where the credits lead and disappear back into the traffic. No glory. No causes. No unnecessary attention. Do the job. Get paid. Get home. IN. OUT. ALIVE.

History

DVGNT // ARCHIVE RECORD

DIVERGENT NOMAD TRADING

Independent Contracting & Logistics

ORIGIN // INCOMPLETE

There was no grand beginning.

No ceremony.

No flag raised over some distant outpost.

No moment anyone thought worth recording.

Someone needed a job done.

Someone else needed the credits.

That was enough.

────────────────────────────

One pilot became two.

Two became a crew.

Then somebody knew somebody.

A hauler who knew which questions not to ask.

An engineer who could keep a dying ship alive for thirty more seconds.

A gunner who stayed calm when the shields disappeared.

A medic willing to go back when everyone else had already written someone off.

A pilot who understood that surviving a fight was more important than winning one.

They came from different places.

Some walked away from corporations.

Some stopped believing in the flags they served beneath.

Some had crews once.

Some had never belonged anywhere at all.

Their stories were different.

The reason they stayed was not.

THE BLACK SHEEP HAD FOUND EACH OTHER.

Nobody asked much about the past.

The past rarely helps when something starts shooting at you.

There was only one question worth asking.

CAN WE TRUST YOU WHEN IT GOES WRONG?

────────────────────────────

The jobs continued.

Cargo.

Recovery.

Protection.

Acquisition.

Salvage.

Extraction.

Work that was perfectly ordinary.

Work that was not.

The crews changed.

Some left.

Others stayed.

The ones who stayed brought others.

Eventually, a name appeared on the paperwork.

DIVERGENT NOMAD TRADING

DVGNT

A logistics company.

A contractor.

Another collection of ships moving through ports already crowded with thousands of them.

Nothing remarkable.

That was rather the point.

────────────────────────────

DVGNT never needed everyone to know its name.

Recognition attracts attention.

Attention attracts questions.

Questions complicate contracts.

So we learned to disappear into the traffic.

No parade of matching ships.

No territory to defend.

No flag demanding allegiance.

No need to tell the ‘verse who we are.

Land.

Conduct business.

Leave.

Those who need us tend to find us.

Those who fly with us already know.

────────────────────────────

There is always another contract.

Make sure you’re there to take it.

IN. OUT. ALIVE.

Manifesto

DVGNT // INTERNAL TRANSMISSION

WE ARE THE BLACK SHEEP.

The ones who never quite fit.

The ones who asked too many questions.

The ones who stopped believing that a uniform made someone right.

The ones who discovered that independence and isolation are not the same thing.

Pilots.

Haulers.

Mercenaries.

Miners.

Engineers.

Medics.

Salvagers.

Explorers.

Drifters.

Your past belongs to you.

DVGNT is interested in what happens after the airlock closes.

────────────────────────────

I // NO FLAGS

Governments have causes.

Corporations have shareholders.

Armies have orders.

Others build empires.

We have each other.

DVGNT serves no flag.

No corporation owns us.

No faction commands us.

No client purchases our allegiance.

They can purchase our time.

Our ships.

Our expertise.

Our discretion.

Our loyalty is not for sale.

That belongs to the crew.

────────────────────────────

II // THE CONTRACT

Everything begins with an offer.

Someone wants something.

Someone else probably doesn’t want them to have it.

And somewhere between the two…

there are credits.

Cargo.

Security.

Recovery.

Bounties.

Salvage.

Extraction.

Acquisition.

Reconnaissance.

Sometimes the client tells us everything.

Sometimes they don’t.

We assess the job.

We assess the risk.

We assess the price.

Credits will get our attention.

They will not automatically get our agreement.

But once DVGNT gives its word, we intend to keep it.

Do the job.

Get paid.

Leave.

────────────────────────────

III // STAY GREY

Don’t look dangerous.

Don’t look important.

Don’t give anyone a reason to remember you.

Don’t advertise capability.

Don’t start fights you don’t need.

Don’t make enemies you don’t need.

Let someone else tell stories about their victories.

Let someone else paint their colours across a fleet.

Let someone else become famous.

We’ll be in the next hangar over.

Be forgettable.

It keeps you alive.

────────────────────────────

IV // THE CREW

Ships can be replaced.

Cargo can be abandoned.

Credits can be earned again.

Reputation can be rebuilt.

People are harder.

Someday the contract will go wrong.

Your ammunition will be low.

Your ship may be burning.

The extraction point may be compromised.

And somebody will have to decide whether coming back for you is worth the risk.

If you’re one of ours…

WE COME BACK.

Not because regulations demand it.

Not because there’s money in it.

Because that’s the arrangement.

You would come back for us.

────────────────────────────

V // CONTRACT BURNED

Every operator needs to know two words.

Every mission lead needs to know when to say them.

CONTRACT BURNED.

When those words are called, the mission changes.

Immediately.

The cargo no longer matters.

The target no longer matters.

The payment no longer matters.

Pride certainly doesn’t matter.

Break contact.

Recover the crew.

Get aboard.

Get out.

There will be another contract.

Another shipment.

Another bounty.

Another ship.

There may not be another you.

────────────────────────────

We don’t need heroes.

We need people who come home.

We don’t need fame.

We need people we can trust.

We don’t need everyone to understand us.

Most never will.

────────────────────────────

If you’ve read this far, you probably already know.

Maybe you never fit the uniform.

Maybe you walked away from one.

Maybe you’ve simply been flying alone for too long.

Bring the ship you have.

Bring what you know.

Bring the people you trust.

There’s room on the crew.

DVGNT IS RECRUITING.

THE CREW COMES HOME.

IN. OUT. ALIVE.

Charter

DVGNT // STANDING ORDERS

THE CHARTER

There aren’t many rules.

Remember the ones we have.

────────────────────────────

01 // CREW BEFORE CONTRACT

Contracts matter.

Credits matter.

Reputation matters.

None of them matter more than the people beside you.

Ships can be replaced.

Cargo can be abandoned.

Money can be earned again.

When forced to choose between the objective and the crew:

CHOOSE THE CREW.

If one of ours can reasonably be brought home, we go back.

Someday it may be you waiting for the ramp to come down.

THE CREW COMES HOME.

────────────────────────────

02 // YOUR WORD HAS VALUE

Do not accept work you have no intention of completing.

Once DVGNT gives its word, we make every reasonable effort to keep it.

A contract may fail.

Circumstances may change.

The situation may become impossible.

That happens.

What matters is that our word was worth something when we gave it.

Credits come and go.

Trust takes longer.

────────────────────────────

03 // LOYALTY IS NOT FOR SALE

A client purchases a service.

Our time.

Our ships.

Our expertise.

Our discretion.

Nothing more.

DVGNT does not inherit the politics, causes, grudges or enemies of whoever happens to be paying us.

When the contract ends, the obligation ends.

Our allegiance remains where it was before the job began.

With the crew.

────────────────────────────

04 // DON’T BRING HEAT HOME

Your business is your business.

Until it becomes ours.

Don’t create unnecessary enemies.

Don’t start wars over pride.

Don’t turn personal grudges into organisational problems.

Don’t put the crew in danger because somebody bruised your ego.

Handle your business.

Clean up after yourself.

And if trouble follows you home, tell us before it reaches the door.

────────────────────────────

05 // DISCRETION

Not everybody needs to know everything.

The public does not need our stories.

Other crews do not need our stories.

Clients do not need more information than the contract requires.

Sometimes even we only need the part that concerns us.

Know what to say.

Know who needs to hear it.

Know when silence is worth more.

Be forgettable.

────────────────────────────

06 // NO HEROES

DVGNT does not reward pointless sacrifice.

There are no medals for dying dramatically.

Retreat when necessary.

Abandon cargo when necessary.

Lose the bounty.

Lose the equipment.

Lose the ship.

Pride is cheaper to replace than people.

And when the mission has reached the point where survival matters more than completion, the call is made:

CONTRACT BURNED.

From that moment, the original objective no longer exists.

There is no debate.

There is no vote.

The new objective is simple:

BREAK CONTACT.

RECOVER THE CREW.

GET ABOARD.

GET OUT.

Debrief later.

There will always be another contract.

Make sure you’re alive to take it.

────────────────────────────

07 // TRUST

Mistakes happen.

Bad calls happen.

Contracts fail.

Ships get destroyed.

People lose their temper.

We deal with those things.

Dishonesty is different.

Do not steal from the crew.

Do not deliberately sabotage another member.

Do not sell information that puts DVGNT personnel at risk.

Do not sacrifice someone else for your own profit.

Trust is difficult to earn.

It is considerably harder to earn twice.

────────────────────────────

08 // RANK IS TRUST

Rank represents experience, responsibility and trust.

Nothing more.

It does not make one member more important than another.

During an operation, somebody leads.

When they make the call, listen.

When the operation ends, so does that authority.

No salutes.

No inflated titles.

No pretending we’re an army.

Know your role.

Do it well.

Keep the person beside you alive.

────────────────────────────

09 // REAL LIFE COMES FIRST

DVGNT is a crew.

It is not a second job.

There are no attendance quotas.

No compulsory shifts.

No punishment for having a life outside the ‘verse.

When you’re away, you’re away.

When you take a seat with the crew, however:

Be present.

Communicate.

Do your part.

Others may be depending on you.

────────────────────────────

10 // IN. OUT. ALIVE.

When everything else becomes complicated, remember the simplest rule we have.

IN.

Reach the objective.

OUT.

Finish the job.

Know when you’ve outstayed your welcome.

ALIVE.

The only part that isn’t negotiable.

The contract can fail.

The cargo can burn.

The ship can be lost.

The credits can wait.

THE CREW COMES HOME.

────────────────────────────

DVGNT

IN. OUT. ALIVE.
