“Nine men’s work in one”
When High Secretary Sharrad read Operation Pitchfork’s letter to the Senate back in April 2944, many who had seen their lives trampled by the Vanduul saw hope, thinking that help was on its way. Emotions ran high for months, with droves of citizens flocking to the cause, flooding the spectrum with promises of support.
EES three founding members met each other at the tail end of 2946, while on protection duty for operation haulers in the Vega system. By then, interest had mostly fizzled out and only those who either truly believed in the cause or were trying to make a profit out of it remained. After barely surviving an encounter with local pirate gangs and escaping a Vanduul raiding party by the skin of their teeth, they agreed to join their assets into a new entity, having acknowledged each other’s capabilities and drive.
Einar, a retired UEE Navy officer. Quiet, slow to trust but quick to charge into the breach.
Erling, descendant of Armitage colonists. A man whose thirst for revenge simmers behind a quick tongue and sharper mind.
Sigurdsson, the enigma. Talkative about anything but himself. A disjointed amalgamation of talents that seem to get him out of the toughest situations.
As Operation Pitchfork waned into oblivion and their own resources began to dwindle, EES was forced to search for work elsewhere. From the conflict zone to the safer systems surrounding the corporate haven that is Stanton, they gained a reputation as a reliable if unconventional force. One year they received commendations by the UEE for having successfully escorted a medical supply convoy to the Orion system while on the next they had charges brought against them for alleged smuggling operations in the Pyro and Nyx systems.
In spite of their relative success, the main driving force behind the founding members of EES remained the same: To bring the fight to the Vanduul.
A decade has passed and that time Operation Pitchfork’s slogan ‘We Will Never Forget’ now feels like a hollow taunt as more frontier worlds bleed and the UEE continues to do the absolute minimum. In early May 2956, the founders called a closed meeting. They would not force anyone to follow them into darker waters, but for those who chose to stay, a new path – and a new name – was chosen.
