Handle with KARE.
In the year 2954, the Stanton System was plagued by an escalating crime rate. The Klescher Rehabilitation Facility, originally sold to the public as a beacon of justice, was struggling to control its prison population. Amidst this chaos, an inexperienced bounty hunter named Durin Vossk saw an opportunity to provide a much-needed service.
Vossk, a former inmate of Klescher, had firsthand experience of the facility’s shortcomings. He knew that the system was less of a prison and more of a minimum-security mining facility focused almost entirely on profit. Vossk, fresh out of prison, was looking for a career change and began to imagine how much Klescher needed an external force that could actively defend and react to the revolving door of short sentences and inevitable escapes. With this vision, Vossk founded Klescher Apprehension Recovery and Enforcement. A formal but loose syndicate of solo bounty hunters that could profit from the byproduct of Klescher’s broken for-profit model.
Inspired by the independent nature and impressive hunting effectiveness of dragonflies, Vossk structured the organization into a syndicate that would mirror a dragonfly’s lack of social structure or hierarchy. Each member of K.A.R.E., like a dragonfly, would operate independently, even when working as part of a larger mission (or swarm). Just as dragonflies boast a remarkable success rate of 97% in their pursuits, K.A.R.E. strives for the same level of success in their operations.
Their motto, “We couldn’t KARE more,” reflects not only their commitment to profiteering on the crime-ridden Stanton System, but also their aspiration to match the effectiveness of their insect inspiration. This unique structure and approach have made K.A.R.E. a formidable force in the system.
Commerically, K.A.R.E. has gained a reputation for being expensive but highly effective. Their relentless pursuit of wanted criminals and their impressive success rate has made them a formidable force in the bounty hunting industry.
As K.A.R.E.‘s reputation has grown, so has its influence. The Klescher Rehabilitation Facility, recognizing the syndicate’s success, began to echo their motto in a show of solidarity. Upon every prisoner’s return, they are greeted with the phrase “Klescher Cares!” This serves as a constant reminder of the organization’s presence and the consequences of a life of crime. However, it was their specialization in the Pyro system that truly set them apart.
The Pyro system presents unique challenges for bounty hunting operations. Its volatile environment, marked by unstable jump points and the remnants of a dead star, makes navigation a daunting task. Moreover, the system is notorious for being a haven for various gangs and criminal organizations. These elements combine to create a labyrinth of danger and unpredictability.
Tracking targets in such a region is no easy feat. The dense network of gang-infested outposts and hideouts provides ample cover for fugitives. Moreover, the lack of a centralized law enforcement agency means that criminals can operate with relative impunity. Bounty hunters must rely on their wits, their skills, and often, their sheer luck to locate and apprehend targets in the Pyro system.
Today, K.A.R.E. stands as a testament to Durin Vossk’s vision, continuing to operate in the Pyro system, each member individually contributing to the syndicate’s reputation.
Their unique structure, mirroring the independent nature of dragonflies, remains a defining characteristic of the organization. As they continue to uphold their motto with every mission, the history of K.A.R.E. serves as a reminder that when it comes to justice, there are those who couldn’t care less and those that couldn’t K.A.R.E more.
