Orion Freeholds is an underground alliance of independent crews united by trust, shared refuge, and mutual defense. From hauling and salvage to exploration and discreet contracts, we forge our own path and answer when our people call.

History

ORION FREEHOLDS — HISTORY
The First Open Berth

In the early 2950s, a small circle of independent crews began exchanging contacts in Levski. Their shared ledger recorded practical things: a mechanic willing to extend credit, a pilot who knew a quieter approach, a medic who would answer after the contract had expired.

Names entered that ledger slowly. A completed run earned an introduction. A promise kept earned another.

Among those early contacts was a small group whose work carried them from Nyx into the freight lanes of Stanton and the uncertain reaches of Pyro. They flew reconnaissance, escorted industrial crews, and covered recovery teams on the ground. Each job added another name to the network: miners who needed protection, haulers who needed reliable escorts, and contractors who had learned how quickly a stranded crew could become someone else’s salvage claim.

The turning point came in 2955, during a recovery job in Pyro. An independent hauler had been attacked near a salvage site, leaving survivors scattered between a damaged vessel and a temporary shelter. The first crew to reach them lacked the capacity to bring everyone out.

They called the ledger.

A salvage crew brought tools and spare components. An escort pilot diverted from a paying contract. A medical team secured transport aboard an RSI Polaris. We scouted the approach and helped cover the evacuation. Cargo was unloaded to make room for survivors.

The operation consumed fuel, ammunition, and several crews’ expected earnings. At the rendezvous afterward, those crews agreed to keep a common emergency channel open and begin setting aside supplies for the next call.

The Polaris became a regular meeting place. Its tables held route charts, repair estimates, and arguments over whose turn it was to buy provisions. Crews offered spare berths and workshop space. Trusted contacts offered storage and temporary shelter.

They began calling these places freeholds. Each remained in the care of the people who maintained it, connected to the others through a promise of aid.

In 2956, representatives of the participating crews adopted a common charter and the name Orion Freeholds. Orion honored the memory of frontier settlements lost to Vanduul attacks and the communities displaced from that system. The founders carried that memory into a practical commitment: build a network that could keep helping its people when a port closed, a contract failed, or a ship never reached its destination.

Today, the Freeholds sustain themselves through hauling, mining, salvage, exploration, security, and discreet contracts. Work in Stanton supports longer ventures through Nyx and Pyro. Introductions, reliable information, and access to shelter remain among the alliance’s most valuable assets.

Between runs, crews organize races, practice combat, share equipment, and welcome new hands aboard. Familiar voices turn a collection of ships into a community.

Their public record is brief. The fuller history lives in repaired hulls, debts settled, and names still answering on the common channel.

For those who know the right frequency, Orion Freeholds means there is someone worth calling.

Manifesto

ORION FREEHOLDS — MANIFESTO

Independent crews. Shared refuge. Mutual defense.

A freehold begins with a promise: a place to return to, people you can trust, and a voice that answers when you call.

Orion Freeholds is an underground alliance of independent crews united by that promise. From the shadowed ports of Nyx to the trade routes of Stanton and the uncertain reaches of Pyro, we build connections that make a life among the stars possible. Our strength lives in the agreements we honor, the knowledge we share, and the people willing to stand beside us.

We believe independence deserves a foundation. Every member brings their own ambitions, their own experience, and their own reasons for taking flight. Whether those ambitions lead toward exploration, industry, combat, or a quiet living between contracts, the Freeholds offer room to pursue them. Cooperation allows our individual efforts to become something lasting.

Every role carries weight. The miner provides the material. The hauler keeps supplies moving. The scout finds the route. The escort holds it open. The medic brings someone home. Our success belongs to everyone whose work makes the next departure possible. We respect that work, share its rewards fairly, and give new hands the opportunity to learn.

Our brotherhood is built through action. When one of our people is stranded, threatened, or facing a difficult recovery, we organize the help we can provide. We prepare together, protect one another, and account for our crews when the operation ends. No member is disposable.

Leadership is a responsibility held in trust. Those who lead should prepare carefully, communicate clearly, listen honestly, and take responsibility for their decisions. We value initiative and give capable people room to exercise their judgment. In an operation, we commit to coordinated action; afterward, every member deserves the opportunity to speak, question, and help us improve.

Our word is part of our reputation. We honor agreed terms, protect entrusted information, and settle disagreements fairly. A contact’s confidence, a refuge’s location, and a crew’s livelihood deserve care. Discretion keeps our network strong, while accountability keeps it worthy of trust.

We intend to be capable enough to defend our freedom. We train, maintain our equipment, and develop the discipline to face difficult odds together. Force serves a purpose: protecting our people, fulfilling our commitments, and securing the opportunity to build.

There must also be something worth returning for. The Freeholds belong to race nights, friendly rivalries, unexpected discoveries, and conversations that continue after the contract is complete. We welcome different experience levels and ways of playing. We respect each other’s time, keep competition enjoyable, and recognize that real life comes first.

Our ambition is a community that can prosper through its own efforts and remain dependable through hardship. Each fair deal, successful rescue, shared lesson, and open berth helps build it.

Wherever our crews travel, we carry that commitment with us.

Keep your freedom. Keep your word. Answer the call.

Charter

ORION FREEHOLDS — CHARTER
Independent crews. Shared refuge. Mutual defense.

Orion Freeholds is a voluntary alliance of pilots, crews, and independent operators. We pool knowledge, resources, and protection so our members can build a life on their own terms.

1. Freedom of the Freeholds

Members retain control of their vessels, property, and chosen professions. A freehold may be a crew, a ship, or a shared refuge. Each governs its own affairs while honoring this charter and its agreements with others.

2. Answer the Call

Members offer assistance according to their ability and availability. Rescue, recovery, medical support, escorts, and supplies all sustain the alliance. We plan for the return of our people as carefully as we plan for the completion of a contract.

3. Keep Faith

A member’s trust, property, and livelihood are protected within the alliance. Theft, deliberate deception of fellow members, and betrayal of shared operations break that trust. Disputes receive a fair hearing from uninvolved stewards, with those involved given a chance to respond.

4. Agree Before Departure

Participants agree on objectives, command, expenses, and payment before a shared operation begins. Pilots, miners, salvagers, medics, scouts, gunners, and support crews all deserve recognition for their contribution. Changes to agreed terms require the consent of those affected.

5. Guard the Network

Members protect sensitive routes, contacts, operational plans, and places of refuge. Information entrusted to the Freeholds is shared only with those authorized to receive it. Outside affiliations and contracts that create a conflict of interest must be disclosed to the stewards.

6. Authority by Consent

Stewards chosen by the membership form the Council of Freeholds, coordinating common resources, diplomacy, and disputes. Their authority serves those who entrusted it to them. During joint operations, participants follow the agreed mission lead; captains retain responsibility for their vessels and crews. Charter changes require a membership vote.

7. Carry Your Consequences

Members remain accountable for their actions. Personal disputes do not authorize conflict in the alliance’s name. Commitments of shared assets or declarations of hostility require Council approval. Members, partners, and guests under our protection must be able to rely on our word.

8. Make Room for a Life

Membership welcomes different skills, experience levels, and ways of playing. Expeditions, industry, combat, races, and time spent together all have a place here. Beyond the fiction, real life comes first. Treat fellow players with respect, communicate when plans change, and keep disagreements about the game from becoming personal.

OUR PLEDGE

I will keep my word, protect the confidence of my crew, and contribute what I can. I accept the refuge offered by these Freeholds and the responsibility to offer it in return.
