In the fictional Dune Universe Shai-Hulud is from the language of The Fremen, the native people of Arrakis. Shai-Hulud’s real and fictional origins are from Arabic. Shai roughly translates to “Thing”, and Hulud roughly translates to “eternity” or “immortality”.
