SQCH // SEMI-QUALIFIED CRYPTID HUNTERS

ORGANIZATION STATUS: ACTIVE
CLASSIFICATION: INDEPENDENT EXPEDITIONARY GROUP

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Most people hear a strange signal and turn away.

We follow it.

SQCH is a small crew of explorers, hunters, pilots,
engineers,

SQCH // HISTORICAL RECORD

CASE FILE: SQCH-X001
DOCUMENT TYPE: HISTORICAL RECORD
CLASSIFICATION: INTERNAL
FILE STATUS: OPEN

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

// ORIGIN

There was no plan to create SQCH.

No recruitment campaign.
No corporate backing.
No command structure.

Just a handful of people who kept finding themselves
in the same places for all the wrong reasons.

Pilots who never quite fit into military life.

Engineers more interested in strange machinery than
following procedure.

Explorers who would change course because they saw
something unusual on a scanner.

Freelancers, salvagers, hunters, drifters and the
occasional professional bad influence.

Individually, they were oddities.

Together, they became friends.

INITIAL PERSONNEL: UNOFFICIAL
ORGANIZATION STATUS: NONEXISTENT

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

// THE CREW

Nobody remembers exactly when they became a crew.

There wasn’t a ceremony.

One job simply became another.

Someone needed an extra gun.

Someone else needed a pilot.

A ship broke down and an engineer stayed to help.

Then came late nights aboard stations, arguments over
bad navigation, emergency repairs, shared contracts,
lost credits and increasingly questionable expeditions.

Eventually, nobody had to ask who was coming.

The answer was usually:

Everyone.

GROUP DESIGNATION: NONE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

// THE STORIES

Every member seemed to have a story.

Something seen beyond the lights of an outpost.

A signal that disappeared when approached.

Movement beneath the surface of an otherwise dead moon.

An abandoned ship whose final log didn’t match the
official report.

Creatures described by miners that didn’t appear in
any recognized xenobiological database.

Most of it was easily dismissed.

Sensor errors.
Exhaustion.
Pirates.
Bad information.
Spacer folklore.

The crew started keeping records anyway.

SQCH // MANIFESTO

DOCUMENT: SQCH-X002
CLASSIFICATION: OPEN
SUBJECT: WHY WE GO

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 01 // WE BELIEVE ]

The universe is too large for us to pretend we
understand all of it.

There are things we haven’t seen.

Places we haven’t reached.

Signals we haven’t identified.

Creatures we haven’t named.

And stories we’ve been far too quick to dismiss.

SQCH exists for the space between what is known
and what is possible.

ASSUMPTION: WE DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 02 // WE ARE THE ODD ONES ]

We are not a polished military unit.

We are not a corporation.

We are not interested in pretending otherwise.

We are pilots.
Explorers.
Engineers.
Hunters.
Researchers.
Salvagers.
Drifters.
And whatever else wandered through the door.

Some of us came looking for adventure.

Some came looking for answers.

Some just found people they liked flying with.

Different backgrounds.
Different ships.
Different reasons for being here.

One crew.

PERSONNEL REQUIREMENT: CURIOSITY RECOMMENDED

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 03 // QUESTION EVERYTHING ]

A strange signal is not proof.

A witness is not proof.

A sensor anomaly is not proof.

A story told over drinks at some forgotten station
is definitely not proof.

But neither is disbelief.

We don’t need to believe the story.

We need to investigate it.

Look.

Record.

Compare.

Follow the evidence wherever it goes.

If there’s an ordinary explanation, good.

If there isn’t…

Even better.

PROTOCOL: INVESTIGATE BEFORE CONCLUDING

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 04 // GO WHERE OTHERS DON’T ]

There will always be reasons to turn around.

The signal is probably interference.

The cave is probably empty.

The ship is probably abandoned.

The witness probably imagined it.

The coordinates are probably wrong.

Probably.

SQCH was built around the people who hear the word
“probably” and decide to check anyway.

Not because we’re fearless.

Because we’re curious.

ROUTE STATUS: UNCHARTED

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 05 // THE CREW MATTERS ]

The discovery is never more important than the people
standing beside you.

Credits come and go.

Ships explode.

Equipment gets lost.

Missions fail spectacularly.

None of that matters as much as having people you
actually want beside you when everything goes wrong.

SQCH began as a group of friends.

Whatever it becomes, that should never change.

PRIORITY: CREW

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 06 // FAILURE COUNTS ]

Not every expedition will uncover something extraordinary.

Most probably won’t.

Sometimes we’ll travel millions of kilometers to discover
that the mysterious light was a broken transmitter.

Sometimes the monster will be a rock.

Sometimes we’ll crash the ship before we even get there.

That’s part of it.

A failed expedition still gives us a story.

A disproven rumor still gives us an answer.

Knowing what isn’t out there brings us one step closer
to finding what is.

NEGATIVE RESULT: STILL A RESULT

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 07 // STAY WEIRD ]

The ‘verse already has enough people taking themselves
too seriously.

SQCH should never become one of those places.

Bring the strange ship.

Ask the stupid question.

Tell us the ridiculous theory.

Take the unnecessary detour.

Laugh when the plan falls apart.

Then help put the ship back together.

Professional when necessary.

Questionable whenever possible.

NORMALITY: NOT REQUIRED

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ 08 // WHY WE GO ]

We don’t expect to solve every mystery.

We don’t expect every legend to be real.

We don’t even expect to come home with evidence
every time.

That’s not why we go.

We go because somewhere beyond the station lights,
trade lanes, and places already marked on the map,
there is still something none of us have seen before.

Something unexplained.

Something waiting to be discovered.

And when someone finds a strange transmission…

a footprint where there shouldn’t be one…

a shape moving beyond the floodlights…

or a set of coordinates attached to a story that
makes absolutely no sense…

There should be someone willing to take a look.

Might as well be us.

FINAL DIRECTIVE: STAY CURIOUS

Charter

SQCH // CHARTER

CASE FILE: SQCH-X003 CLASSIFICATION: INTERNAL
STATUS: ACTIVE ARCHIVE: ORGANIZATIONAL DIRECTIVE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ I // THE CREW COMES FIRST ]

SQCH is a crew before it is an organization.

Members support one another in the field, share knowledge,
assist stranded crew, and answer the call when another
member needs help.

SHIPS CAN BE REPLACED.
CREDITS CAN BE EARNED AGAIN.
THE CREW CANNOT.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ II // FOLLOW THE TRACE ]

We investigate what others ignore.

Unknown signals.
Unidentified lifeforms.
Abandoned vessels.
Forgotten settlements.
Unexplained phenomena.
Stories that don’t make sense.

We don’t assume every report is true.

WE FIND OUT FOR OURSELVES.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ III // LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND ]

If a member falls, we recover them.
If a ship goes down, we answer.
If someone disappears into the black, we go looking.

An SQCH expedition makes every reasonable effort to
return with the same people it left with.

NO ONE DISAPPEARS ALONE.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ IV // FREEDOM WITH RESPONSIBILITY ]

SQCH members are free to make their own way through the ‘verse.

Explore.
Hunt.
Salvage.
Trade.
Mine.
Fight.
Investigate.

We don’t care what ship you own.
We don’t care how many credits you have.
We don’t care how many hours you’ve logged.

We care whether the crew can rely on you.

FLY YOUR OWN WAY.
ANSWER WHEN THE CREW CALLS.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ V // DON’T BE AN ASSHOLE ]

This directive requires very little explanation.

No harassment.
No discrimination.
No deliberate griefing of fellow members.
No unnecessary drama.
No treating new players like idiots.

We’re here to explore the universe, make friends,
and occasionally make terrible decisions in the
name of curiosity.

KEEP IT FUN.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ VI // RANK IS RESPONSIBILITY ]

Rank represents trust, experience, contribution,
and responsibility.

It does not determine someone’s value to the crew.

Those given authority are expected to use it to
help the organization succeed.

NO THRONES.
NO EGOS.
JUST RESPONSIBILITY.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ VII // THE ARCHIVE ]

Document unusual discoveries whenever possible.

Coordinates.
Sensor readings.
Creatures.
Signals.
Derelicts.
Artifacts.
Anomalies.
Witness accounts.

One strange reading may mean nothing.

Repeated reports become evidence.

RECORD EVERYTHING.
DISMISS NOTHING WITHOUT CAUSE.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[ VIII // STANDING DIRECTIVE ]

There are thousands of perfectly reasonable reasons
not to investigate something strange.

SQCH only needs one reason to go.

Someone says:

"I FOUND SOMETHING WEIRD."

We investigate.
