Starless: A Syndicate Forged in the Shadows of the Messer Era
History & Lore: The Messer Era
The Messer Era was a long and brutal authoritarian period in human history where the Messer family controlled the United Empire of Earth (UEE) as hereditary Imperators, consolidating power through military dominance, propaganda, repression, and violent governance across human space. Over nearly 250 years, the regime expanded the UEE while suppressing dissent, deploying secret police, and enforcing compliance through fear & control.
The era ended in 2792 after the Massacre of Garron II — a catastrophic terraforming atrocity that ignited galaxy-wide outrage and catalyzed the Revolution of 2792. The supreme ruler, Linton Messer XI, was deposed and executed, and the old democratic structures were restored under Imperator Erin Toi.
The formation of Starless
Starless did not originate as a revolt against the Messer government. Rather, it was born in the threshold years between oppression and revolution — a period where countless citizens, soldiers disillusioned by endless wars (including campaigns against the Tevarin and Vanduul), and politically unaligned exiles found themselves unwanted by regime enforcers and dismissed by reformist governments. Starless’s early history:
2790–2792: Displaced civilian survivors from Garron II, along with ex-military specialists morally opposed to Messer-era policies, began forming autonomous constellations — independent survival enclaves with combat and evasion expertise.
2792–2795: In the chaos of the Revolution and the Messer government’s collapse, central authority fragmented. Starless cells expanded, offering services mundane governments could not authorize — covert extraction, interdiction of Vanduul infiltrations, and rescue in interdictor blockades.
By 2800: Starless functioned not as a resistance movement, but as a trans-system syndicate — operating where law did not reach, and where both the Ancien regime and the new UEE refused to intervene or could not legally act.
During the post‑Messer transition, the UEE conducted war crimes tribunals against regime officials, broadcast system-wide to rebuild trust and enforce justice — but this also created power vacuums Starless filled through deniable operations.
Not Empire. Not army. Not State. Not Rebellion.
We are Starless.
We are the resolution beyond authority, the presence that emerges when systems fail.
Our allegiance is capability, our compass is the outcome, and our existence is beyond a Star’s Illumination.
The Starless manifesto stands in contrast to the centralized authority of the Messer Era.
It reflects ideals forged by those betrayed by the empire and reform.
1. We act where light does not reach, many of us from the outer rims of the galaxy, where records cannot follow, where governments cannot claim. So, operations must stay invisible unless otherwise.
2. Achieving our mission is Absolute, measures of success are independent of politics, morality or profit.
3. Autonomy as Survival: Each cell operates independently, yet in alignment with Starless’s principles. A cell consists of 3-6 people, each containing 1 captain, 1 first officer 1 engineer 2 gunner 1 scanner.
4. We cultivate our expertise in areas much more where others fail: Piloting, exfiltration & infiltration, domination, negotiation, and survival. This is where we stand apart from any other groups in the verse.
5. Our last principle: All personal histories, allegiances, and titles are surrendered. Each member must adopt call signs, always noting that our presence is known through cause & effect, not announcement.
Starless does not conquer, claim or govern.
Starless does not negotiate loyalty.
Who’s asking?
Starless is involved in all aspects of Star citizen. We don’t want you to feel trapped or confined to one playstyle whilst in our org. So all of us are more than willing to join and participate in various activities such as racing, mining, salvaging, operations and contracts- you name it~ just ask!
