Telemark Battalion / TMBN

EARLY

Telemark Battalion was originally founded almost 1000 years ago – in the year 1993 – as a unit of what was then known as the Norwegian Armed Forces. Originally conceived as a unit consisting of specially selected conscripts, it remained this way until 2003, when it was converted into a professional unit of fulltime enlisted personnel.

Throughout its early years, this military unit served and fought with distinction in such locations, and then-nation states, as the Balkans then Afghanistan between 1993 and 2011, before being commited into the great fight against the early-2000s scourge known as “ISIS” – or “Islamic State of Iraq & Syria” – which went on until the year 2023.

The second Korean War of 2025 was the first time Telemark Battalion was deployed as a whole. Having been prepositioned in the Goseong salient of South-Korea, TMBN and several British units faced encirclement for several weeks as North-Korean forces broke into South-Korean territory.
