History

The 7th Marine Intelligence Detachment was founded by a small group of Star Citizen players who wanted to build a community around coordinated gameplay without the demands of traditional milsim.

Our aim was to create an organization that could accommodate a variety of interests while maintaining a common identity. The Marine Intelligence theme gave us the flexibility to combine reconnaissance, specialist operations, aviation, logistics, and other supporting activities under one roof.

From the beginning, we’ve taken a practical approach to building the organization. Rather than establishing a large command structure from day one, we’re developing our teams, ranks, and responsibilities as our membership grows.

Today, the 7th continues to develop around the same principles: relaxed military-inspired gameplay, teamwork, and giving members the freedom to pursue the activities they enjoy.

We’re here to play Star Citizen, work together, and have a good time doing it.

Manifesto

The 7th Marine Intelligence Detachment is a Star Citizen organization focused on organized, team-based gameplay with a UEE Marine Intelligence theme.

We describe ourselves as a chillsim organization.

We like military structure, ranks, qualifications, uniforms, and organized operations because they give everyone a role and make group gameplay more interesting. We don’t expect members to treat the organization like a real military unit, and we aren’t interested in turning a game into a second job.

Our gameplay is built around four broad areas: Reconnaissance, Intelligence, Special Activities, and Support.

Recon gets out ahead of the group, scouts locations, gathers information, and provides security.

Intelligence is less about pretending to be spies and more about using what our members actually know. If someone knows the best way to disable a particular ship, navigate a location, approach a mission, or deal with a particular threat, that’s useful intelligence. We want to build and share that knowledge.

Support keeps everything running: pilots, ship crews, medics, engineers, logistics, transportation, rearming, refueling, and whatever else an operation requires.

Members aren’t locked into doing one thing forever. Qualifications let people develop specialties while still being part of the wider Detachment.

Ultimately, the goal is simple:

Get some people together, make a plan, give everyone something meaningful to do, and have a good night playing Star Citizen.

Charter

Membership and participation

Real life comes first.

There are no expectations that members treat the organization as a real-world commitment. Play when you can. If you’re around for an organized operation, we ask that you work with the group and help make the experience enjoyable for everyone involved.
Members should treat each other and the wider Star Citizen community with respect. Don’t create unnecessary drama, don’t ruin other people’s fun, and don’t use the organization as an excuse to be a jerk.

Organization

The 7th uses a military-inspired rank and unit structure because it makes coordinating larger groups easier.
Rank represents responsibility within the organization, not personal importance.

Someone having a higher rank doesn’t mean they’re a better player, and being good at the game doesn’t mean someone needs to pursue rank.

Members can instead develop qualifications and specialties in areas that interest them.

As the organization grows, new leadership positions and ranks will be added when they’re actually needed rather than creating an oversized command structure for a small group.

Leadership

The Commanding Officer and Executive Officer are responsible for the overall direction and administration of the organization.
During operations, leadership should happen at the lowest sensible level.

If you’re leading a Recon team, you should be allowed to lead your Recon team. If you’re the best pilot for a particular operation, your expertise should matter regardless of whether someone else technically outranks you.

The chain of command exists to keep twenty people from talking over each other, not to make people ask permission to have fun.

Qualifications and equipment

Qualifications recognize things members are good at or have taken the time to learn. They may cover areas such as piloting, medicine, engineering, reconnaissance, marksmanship, ship operations, intelligence, or other gameplay specialties.

Qualifications may be used when putting together teams for organized operations, but they aren’t intended to prevent people from trying new things. Equipment follows the same philosophy. Organized operations may have basic requirements based on what we’re doing, but we’re not interested in policing every weapon, backpack, or piece of armor someone chooses to use.

Operations

Operations can range from a handful of people running missions together to larger organized events involving ships, ground teams, fighters, logistics, and intelligence support. We try to give everyone participating something useful to do.Plans provide direction rather than scripts. Things will go wrong, Star Citizen will do Star Citizen things, and players are expected to adapt. Sometimes we’ll run a tightly coordinated operation.
Sometimes we’ll spend three hours accomplishing almost nothing because someone crashed the ship. Both are Star Citizen.
