2948 — The Cut
The Void Reavers did not start as a banner. They started as a problem the Navy refused to file.
A mixed convoy — salvage tugs, a battered Drake hull, and two former Advocacy pilots flying escort — jumped a poorly charted lane on the Stanton–Pyro fringe and never arrived. Comms logs later recovered from a black box called it a “thermal event.” The crews who crawled out of it called it the Cut: a wound in space, a red ring with nothing behind it.
They were written off. Insurance closed. Families were paid. The ships that still had power used the Cut as a hiding place instead of a grave.
That is the first Reaver story. Everything after is just who they decided to become once they realized the Empire would not come looking.
2949–2951 — Teeth
Survival in unclaimed dark teaches a simple doctrine: one ship is a target, five ships are a conversation.
The first captains pooled what they could steal, salvage, or buy under dead names.
• An Idris taken off a mothballed Navy depot run — the flag, the hangar, the threat.
• A Polaris bought in pieces and welded back into a proper corvette. It became the knife.
• An Orion claimed after a mining charter defaulted and the crew vanished. The Reavers kept the miners who wanted work and dumped the ones who wanted a union with Hurston.
• A Kraken that already looked like it had been through three owners and a war. It still does. It is the hall, the flight deck, the place prospects sleep.
• A Perseus paid for in blood and tungsten. Twin guns. No poetry.
They did not fly as a Navy line. They flew as a pack: Orion feeds the fleet, Kraken launches the fighters, Polaris cuts the escape vector, Perseus breaks the hull that talks back, Idris decides whether anyone leaves.
UEE reports from those years list them as “unaligned capital activity, Pyro approaches.” That is as close as official language gets to respect.
2952 — The Charter at the Ring
They ratified a charter in the shadow of the same red rift that made them.
Not a constitution. A working agreement.
Crew before cargo.
No Reaver is left on a pad for the Advocacy to collect.
Contracts are honored until they are not worth the heat.
The Cut is not a tourist site. You do not bring strangers to it.
Rank is earned in the black, not bought in New Babbage.
They called the organization what the wrecked comms officer had scrawled on a bulkhead after the first jump: VOID REAVERS. Not a threat. A job description. They take from the empty places what empires leave behind.
2953–2954 — Reputation
Stanton learned the name first, the way Stanton learns everything: through delayed shipments and angry Spectrum posts.
They ran three kinds of work.
• Reaving: interdiction on routes nobody wants to admit they use. Pyro lanes. Nyx leftovers. Ghost jumps.
• Industrial: Orion crews stripping wrecks and rocks the big corps marked “uneconomical.”
• Steel: paid defense when a smaller org needed a capital shadow for a window of hours, no questions, no flags.
They were not Nine Tails. They did not want a station with their name on the map. They were not UEE auxiliaries. They did not want a letter of marque that could be revoked.
The useful rumor is this: if you see five capitals silhouetted on a red ring, you are already in the conversation. Pay, run, or burn.
2955–2956 — The Fleet as a Body
By the current cycle the Reavers are less a pirate gang and more a cooperation in the old sense: a closed company of captains who share hulls, risk, and spoils.
The Idris is still the spine. The Polaris still makes the first cut. The Orion still keeps the fleet from starving. The Kraken still carries the people who do not have a capital to their name yet. The Perseus still ends arguments.
New blood comes in as prospects on the Kraken’s pads. They fly escort, haul, turret, and salvage until a captain will stand for them. Those who wash out are dropped in a legal system with their personal ship and a warning not to use the name. Those who stay learn the only doctrine that matters in the Cut: The void does not care who you were. It cares whether the pack still has teeth when the jump drive spins down.
2956–Now
Officially they are a syndicate. Unofficially they are a wandering dock.
They appear in Stanton when the money is clean enough. They vanish into Pyro when it is not. They do not hold cities. They hold a jump, a window, and a list of names who still owe the fleet a favor.
The red ring is still out there. Some Reavers say it is just a jump anomaly. The old ones do not argue. They just keep the Idris pointed at it, like a church that shoots back.
We were not founded in a boardroom. We were not commissioned by the UEE. We were left on the wrong side of a jump and decided that was a better origin than any charter the Empire would have sold us.
The void does not negotiate. Neither do we — except with our own.
What we are
A cooperation of captains. Not a navy. Not a corp. Not a cult.
Five hulls made us a body: the Idris holds the line, the Polaris makes the cut, the Orion feeds the fleet, the Kraken carries the living, the Perseus ends the talk. Everything else — fighters, haulers, prospects, favors — exists to keep those teeth sharp.
We take what the map calls empty and make it ours for as long as we can hold it. Then we move. Flags attract fleets. We attract work.
What we believe
The pack is the law.
A Reaver who flies alone is already dying. Cargo can be replaced. Crew cannot. If a brother or sister is on a pad, in a cell, or in a wreck, the fleet turns around.
Freedom is not a speech.
It is a jump drive that still works and a captain who does not answer to Hurston, microTech, or an Advocacy warrant. We bow to the charter and to the people who bleed under it. Nothing else gets a salute.
Contracts are tools.
We honor a deal while it is worth the heat. We do not swear fealty to clients. We do not become someone’s deniable asset and then pretend we are clean. If you hire the Reavers, you hired the whole shadow — guns, salvage, silence.
The Cut is not content.
The red ring is not a backdrop for tourists and org trailers. It is where we learned the universe will erase you and keep the insurance money. You do not bring strangers to it. You do not mark it on a public chart. You do not explain it to people who still think Stanton is the center of the ‘verse.
Reputation is ammunition.
Lie to the fleet and you are gone. Steal from the fleet and you are hunted. Talk to the Advocacy about the Ring and you are a problem we solve in the black, not on Spectrum.
What we do
We interdict the routes nobody admits they use.
We strip the wrecks corps marked uneconomical.
We sell a few hours of capital shadow to outfits that need to live through a window.
We do not occupy cities. We occupy a jump, a clock, and a list of names who still owe us.
If you see five silhouettes on a red wound in space, you are not early. You are already in the conversation. Pay. Run. Or burn.
What we are not
We are not Nine Tails. We do not want their stations or their theater.
We are not UEE auxiliaries. A letter of marque is a leash with nicer paper.
We are not a social club with a skull on the banner. If you want friends and Friday nights, there are better orgs. If you want a hull at your six when the quantum spool screams, stay.
The demand
Bring a ship you can keep in the fight.
Bring a name you are willing to put on a comm.
Bring the understanding that rank is not bought in New Babbage.
Prospects sleep on the Kraken until a captain will stand for them. Those who wash out are dropped in a legal system with their own ship and a warning: do not wear the name. Those who stay learn the only doctrine that survives contact with the Cut.
The void does not care who you were.
It cares whether the pack still has teeth when the drive spins down.
From the void, we conquer.
From the Cut, we return.
From each other, we do not run.
— VOID REAVERS
Sealed in void-steel.
Article I — Identity
1.1 Name. The organization shall be known as the Void Reavers.
1.2 Nature. We are a syndicate and a cooperation of captains. We are not a navy, a corporation, or an instrument of the UEE.
1.3 Purpose. To keep the fleet alive, the crew free, and the name worth fearing. To take work and salvage the Empire will not file. To hold a jump, a window, and one another.
1.4 Seat. The Reavers hold no public capital. The Idris is the spine of the fleet. The Kraken is the hall. The Cut is not a headquarters and shall not be treated as one.
Article II — The Reaver Code
These five points are not suggestions.
2.1 Crew before cargo. No Reaver is left on a pad, in a cell, or in a wreck while the fleet can still move.
2.2 Freedom above flags. No member swears the fleet to Hurston, microTech, Crusader, the Advocacy, or any letter of marque.
2.3 Contracts are tools. A deal is honored while it is worth the heat. Fealty is not sold.
2.4 The Cut is closed. The red ring is not marked on public charts, not shown to strangers, not used as a backdrop. Disclosure of the Cut to hostile authority is betrayal.
2.5 The name is earned. Rank is not purchased. The name is not worn after exile.
Article III — Structure
3.1 Captain’s Council. Senior captains of the capital line. Strategic command, war and peace, exile, and amendment of this Charter.
3.2 Fleet Captains. Command of a capital or a standing division: line, cut, haul, hall, argument.
3.3 Crew Chiefs. Veterans charged with training, discipline on deck, and standing for prospects.
3.4 Reavers. Full members in good standing. Voice in council when called. Share in spoils per Article VI.
3.5 Prospects. Not yet Reavers. Berth on the Kraken or assigned escort. No claim on the Cut. No right to speak for the fleet.
3.6 Capital line. For so long as they serve the pack:
• Idris — the Line. Flag and hangar.
• Polaris — the Cut. First vector and interdiction.
• Orion — the Haul. Fuel, ore, wreck, and keep.
• Kraken — the Hall. Prospects, fighters, the living.
• Perseus — the Argument. When talk is finished.
No captain of the line acts as if the hull is private property when the fleet is piped to stations.
Article IV — Membership
4.1 Entry. A prospect is taken only on the word of a Reaver in good standing and the assent of a Crew Chief or Fleet Captain.
4.2 Probation. Prospects fly escort, turret, haul, and salvage until a captain will stand for them before Council.
4.3 Elevation. Council confirms full membership. The name may then be worn.
4.4 Affiliation. Outside org tags are permitted only if they do not place a Reaver under a rival chain of command during fleet operations. Exclusive service to a hostile syndicate is incompatible.
4.5 Exit. A Reaver may leave in good standing with Council notice, personal ship, and silence on the Cut. Bad standing is exile.
Article V — Command and Operations
5.1 On operation. The assigned Fleet Captain has the deck. Arguments wait until the drive is cold.
5.2 Fleet call. When Council pipes a call, personal contracts yield. Failure to answer without cause is a matter for Article VII.
5.3 Work. Authorized work is interdiction, salvage, industrial extraction, paid shadow, and such contracts as Council accepts. Freelance piracy in the name of the Reavers without a call is theft of the name.
5.4 Heat. No member brings Advocacy, Navy, or corp security onto a Reaver hull by sloppiness and then calls it misfortune.
5.5 The Ring. Approach to the Cut requires Council leave or standing order. Never with uncleared passengers.
Article VI — Spoils and Property
6.1 Fleet take. Cargo, salvage, and contract pay taken under a fleet call belong first to the cooperation. Shares are cut after repair, fuel, and the dead.
6.2 Shares. Council sets the cut. Capitals that flew, crews that bled, and the hall that kept prospects alive are not forgotten in the math.
6.3 Personal hulls. A member’s personal ship remains theirs. What is flown as fleet asset is fleet asset for the length of the call.
6.4 Theft from the pack. Taking from a Reaver, a Reaver hold, or the shared take is not a disagreement. It is a crime under Article VII.
Article VII — Discipline
7.1 Causes. Cowardice that strands crew. Theft from the pack. Betrayal of the Cut. Speaking for the fleet without authority. Wearing the name after exile.
7.2 Measures. Reprimand. Loss of share. Loss of rank. Exile. In the black, where no court will have us, Council may authorize a hunt.
7.3 Hearing. A Reaver accused has the right to stand before Council unless the fleet is under fire. Prospects have no such right.
7.4 Exile. The exiled are set down in a legal system with their personal ship and a prohibition on the name. They are not owed an explanation on Spectrum.
Article VIII — External Powers
8.1 UEE and Advocacy. We do not seek recognition and we do not perform for it.
8.2 Corps. We sell a window of steel. We do not become a subsidiary.
8.3 Other organizations. Treaties, truces, and joint calls require Council. A single captain may accept a short escort or shadow; they may not bind the name.
8.4 Prisoners. Captives taken under a call are Council’s problem, not a private trophy.
Article IX — Amendment
9.1 This Charter is amended only by the Captain’s Council.
9.2 The five points of Article II are not amended in haste and never in a bar in Area18.
9.3 Custom that contradicts this Charter is not law until Council writes it down.
Article X — Seal
We keep no anthem that needs a choir. We keep a line of hulls and a rule that still works when the comms are dead.
Crew before cargo.
Freedom above flags.
The pack before the story you wanted to tell about yourself.
