Maze is a naturally-occurring tranquilizer and psychedelic drug that is harvested from the bark of the mazzi tree. When eaten in large quantities, the psychoactive alkaloids within the bark send users into a near-comatose trance, during which they experience complex audiovisual visualizations that can lead to philosophical, personal, or spiritual insights. Tevarin in origin, it was traditionally used by warriors once they came of age to help find their path in life. Maze lost its cultural importance after the end of the Second Tevarin War, and today it is mainly used for recreational purposes.
