Platform-based colonization is the use of platforms as bases for building colonies in environments which provide no other means of stable settlement. Platforms can be orbital, situated within a planet’s atmosphere, built onto a planet’s bedrock, or can float on bodies of water. Crusader (Stanton II) and Ergo (Nemo III) contain examples of this practice.
