Mala is a naturally-occurring psychedelic drug that induces synesthesia in its users. Harvested from the mala fly, when taken in large enough quantities it confuses the cognitive pathways of the brain, causing sensory experiences to cross and mix. Effects vary widely from user to user. Reported experiences include gaining the ability to taste music and colors, see and smell sounds, or hear images. The drug can also dull or alter a user's sense of pain, potentially exposing them to dangerous situations as pain becomes absent or pleasurable.
