Not much can be said about the 172nd, most of it is locked behind red tape, destroyed documents, and lips that have long since been sealed for all time, or have no clue what you’re speaking about.

One thing is for sure, they exist, to many wounded soldiers, saved at the last moment, to many battles where the tide has been turned and won.
Speak to a soldier who served on the fronts on Caliban, he’ll tell you a story of gun ships so black they seemed to devour the light around them. He’ll tell you of soldiers so silent they would only nod in acknowledgement before storming into impossible odds and cease the day. Or maybe speak to an Fleet Officer of the Navy about the battle of titan, they might tell you of black ships whose engines seemed to scream like banshees from ancient Terras myths, streaming molten death upon all those who would dare harm or cross the UEE. How about Orion? Ask anyone from those days and they will tell you death descended from the sky that day, merciless and cruel, bloodied and furious. And just as fast as death had appeared it was gone again, all opposition silenced.

To many solders, naval officers, and people have seen these black soldiers who specialize in silent death. To many witnesses have seen the black ships numbered 172nd with screaming raven talons out to vanquish the next threat. The stories may be different, the battles may not all be the same.
