Updated 28 August 2024. Now that 3.24 is out the door (and my currently limited time) I will no longer be maintaining this FAQ. Please refer to the patch notes. If anyone else wants to steal copy all of this please feel free to do so. I appreciate all the folks that helped contribute, there were dozens of direct contributes and hundreds of others who helped out. Love this community! Some common questions we get about how hangars work, just consolidating answers here until there's an official FAQ when we get closer to release. I will edit and update this as more common questions get asked, or if someone finds a mistake. Quote me at your peril, I am another backer and only human. DEFINITIONS and TERMS PH - Personal Hangar PUB - Public Hangar FE - Freight Elevator DC - Distro Center TAFO - Test and Find Out ALL HANGARS All hangars are instanced and persistent (PUB persist only as long as you're at the station). Skip the public ASOP (when at home) and go straight to the elevator. Only use public ASOPs when NOT AT HOME. There is NO AZ in hangars anymore. This is to allow players to pick up weapons, and stock weapon racks. Law applies, but zone is free fire. Hangar decorations do not lock, anyone in the hangar can move them. There is no cargo grid on the Hangar floor, only the FE. Any party member can access any other party members hangar as long as they are in a party. Any trespassers (to include kicked party members) take 8 seconds to immediately teleport out of the hangar. Hangar type (self land, aeroview) is currently locked to location, there is currently no way to change this. You can store more than one ship or vehicle at a time. If it fits on the hangar/FE it will successfully store. You cannot yet spawn more than one at a time. Autoland has not changed. Behavior same as live. TAFO if engines move items and boxes around in hangars, whether locked to grid or free. Hangar Sizes listed below. @WarlockSRB has done some excellent work and I've linked the specific comment thread below. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/3-24-hangar-function-faq/7114882 The hangar ASOP will only show ships that fit in that hangar. If you purchase a ship in game that is too large for your hangar, you must spawn it with the 'public' ASOP in the lobby. This will assign you a public hangar of the appropriate size. PERSONAL HANGARS (PH) PH are only at your home location on your starting planet. The initial size of the PH is the largest flyable pledge ship that is in your web hangar. If loaners are larger than the currently flyable pledge ships, those take priority. Buying a new (larger) ship on the pledge store will not resize your PH. CIG has confirmed this will come, but NOT in 3.24 (Nicou comment below). There is currently no way to resize PH, plans for this unclear. (caveat below) Setting your spawn point to a medical vehicle does work. You can respawn in your hangar (tested with C8R, you are still bound by range limits!) Personal Hangar Resizing When you buy ships with aUEC, as with the pledge store, you will not get a larger PH for that ship for the duration of the patch. IF your ship is retained in LTP, when the next patch comes out, the aUEC ship is considered and you will get a larger PH. Three separate testers have verified this behavior. PUBLIC HANGARS (PUB) PUB work exactly the same as PH in almost every way. When you take off from a PUB after calling ATC anything you leave behind is lost when the hangar doors close behind you. As long as you are at a location, in the same login session, you should retain that PUB. You should retain that PUB through sessions. More testing required to verify this actually functions. FREIGHT ELEVATORS (FE) Small hangars have 1, all other hangars have 2 Outposts have small FE, that does not have a door like other FE. DO NOT try to put stuff on them while they're lowering (may break FE and lose items). Small FE can only accept up to 16 SCU containers size wise. You can currently purchase a 32 SCU container at outposts, this will break the FE. Any vehicle that can fit on the FE can be stored (I stowed my Pisces this way) Vehicles cannot be spawned on FE currently, but it is planned. As a workaround, spawn your ground vehicles from main hangar ASOP first, drive off the pad, then spawn your ship. DC have Medium FE next to their pads, and Large in their hangars (all DC have large PUB) Settlements that sell stuff have Small FE (verification required at all settlements, I can only report what I see) Any items not snapped to grid will prevent the elevator from lowering. Snap all items to grid to avoid errors! AUTOMATIC LOADING Ship needs to be "Stored" for auto-loading/unloading. This means auto-loading is not available anyplace without a hangar (outposts or settlements for example). Auto-loading is not (yet) implemented for Hauling contracts (as of latest PTU build). You can auto-load more than one ship. COMMODITY TERMINALS Under the location dropdown, you select your ship as destination for auto-loading, or the location itself for manual loading via FE. When buying commodities, you now need to select what size container and how many units you are buying. Once purchased, you cannot combine or split into different container sizes. You can still buy and sell directly to ship inventory, but it must be 'stored' in order to do so. Not hangar related but it has been asked: AFAIK there are no new ships for purchase with aUEC in 3.24 that are not available in 3.23 BORING STUFF As and when common questions get asked I will update this post until such time as CIG produces something more official. Hopefully this answers some of the more common questions and clears up some of the rumors about how Hangars and FE function in 3.24 at time of writing. Check the comments below, as others may include their bits as well. I will edit stuff in that I know to be correct. If it's in the comments and not in here it's only because I have not verified it or do not know. If it's in both places I edited their comment in so it doesn't get lost in comments, credit to them. Information accurate as of: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/190048/thread/star-citizen-alpha-3-24-0-ptu-9284528-patch-notes Freight elevator dimensions have been verified. Hangar elevator dimensions need verified by more than one source, have been unable to measure XL hangar currently.
