I've been playing and pledging for four or five years at this point. This is the first time I've ever felt like making a Spectrum post, but I wanted to give my two cents. The state of 4.8, and especially the Ironclad, is a Wallet-Closing Event (WCE) for me. I understand that this is a buggy, actively in-development game. This is juxtaposed with the following perception: "Surely for my ~$600, I must be purchasing the absolute caviar of gameplay experiences, right? After all, I work hard for my money in order to be able to spend it so frivolously. Don't I deserve to have something very, very fun to play at the end of a long day? I'll be sure to enjoy space trucking with my big ship and my HOSAS controls." And yet, the ship releases after minimal testing and with maximal FOMO in a shockingly broken state, with what seems to be actual dozens of bugs, many of which render it unplayable at this time. It's unclear which of these bugs are specific to the ship itself, and which are a manifestation of the abysmal server performance during the 4.8 launch, but altogether, the experience adds up to something which causes me to sit back in my seat and feel foolish for spending money on this. I'm sure that the situation with the Ironclad specifically will improve at some point. The bugs will be patched and the gameplay will slowly approach the point where I am finally able to have a fun experience some weeks or months from now. What will not change is the loss of trust in the development and marketing practices of this game. I believe that I have spent all the money that I am going to spend. I'm not doing that any more. The foundational linkage between "dollars" and "fun" has been broken. Dollars in does not equal enjoyment out - it equals frustration and the sinking feeling that I've been taken advantage of. I don't plan to refund my Ironclad or anything - it'll probably be usable eventually - but I'm done putting quarters into this arcade machine. EDIT: Upon further consideration I have added a reminder to my calendar - if the Ironclad is not in a vastly improved state on June 12th, I will be requesting a refund.
