With the new Cargo Missions being added to the Progress Tracker, we've seen some less than great responses from devs when met with player concerns about including fights by default. Now, I get that combat is the most fleshed out aspect of the game, especially with most things being developed for Squadron first. It makes it an easy route to add more depth and substance to a mission. And there will always be at least a very small chance of combat happening at any given time, sure. That's the thing, though, it's the easy way out sometimes and it's a little old. Seeing this flippant attitude of "every mission should have combat, if you don't like it cry about it" from the Mission Team is frustrating It's dismissive and short-sighted to shoot down player concerns about this stuff. I'm not saying the community suggestions are the right call to go with, inherently. Non-pirateable commodities would be boring as hell. But they indicate that there's a problem that needs to be addressed. And how that's addressed will ultimately be up to the devs. The answer just can't be telling those players to go kick rocks. There are so many other ways of adding in challenge, intrigue, skill, variety, risk, and choice in to cargo missions. Timetables, dispatch and chaining jobs together to avoid as much deadheading as possible, developing your own routes that're best suited to you, cargo handling requirements, engine/thruster strains for handling cargo (engineer/repair gameplay integratio), discrete routes and less than legal commodities, chaining together missions either delivering from or to the same place, cargo load order to go with that, etc. The list can go on and be way more interesting than resigning to "hire an escort" as the only gameplay we can manage. Sidenote: nearly any mission from the Firefly tabletop game by Gale Force Nine would be killer in SC as the basis for a mission concept. There's so much creative potential in these missions, and we know the Mission Team are more than capable of it. Hell, they've pulled off some really cool and fun things already! I really don't want to see them get stuck into a box of being afraid it might be hand holding if player isn't actively being shot at.
