"Carebear" was first coined as a pejorative for those that don't like PvP in Ultima Online. I was there. I was one of the originals. I'm also an original backer of Star Citizen, and I had an internal debate with myself about whether I wanted to back this project given that it was Advertised from the Beginning as Open PvP. ... Let me repeat that for emphasis ... Star Citizen was Advertised in 2012 as an Open PvP game. I obviously decided that I wanted to be part of this and don't regret that decision... and Star Citizen is an Open PvP game... it has been from the beginning. With that in mind, there are only 2 things that qualify as Griefing in Star Citizen: Repeatedly hunting down the same player and killing them simply to kill them Circumventing those controls designed to prevent conflict to kill someone. (Pad Ramming is the easiest example.) All other conflict between players, desired or not, is fair game in an Open PvP game. I.E. If you're outside a No-Fire Zone, you're fair game and a target. What does this mean for people that want to avoid PvP? Simple: You have to take responsibility for your own well being. Be aware of your surroundings. Watch your radar. Learn to turn and burn so you can get into a no-fire zone quickly. Always have a Quantum Target selected. Never Quantum directly to your intended destination. Keep your speed up (This will be even more important/effective with 3.10 and the reduction in effective combat speeds) If you're Running Cargo: Realize that the PvPers look at Galog too and know as well as you do what the most profitable runs are, so either Get an Escort (PvPers will by and large quit chasing you and fight your escort, 'cause by and large that's what they're mostly looking for) or... Be satisfied with the less than optimal runs that are FAR less likely to be camped by the bad guys. If you're Mining: Don't mine within spitting distance of Grim Hex (Or any other popular quantum point)... Jebuz, people... why would you Mine alone in your prospector next to THE PIRATE BASE and then complain when you get blowed up? Don't start out at Shubin... Don't start out at Trammel... Drop into the middle of Nowhere. There are two complete circle asteroid fields in Stanton... Get Lost in one. There are a Dozen Planets in the system... Daymar is the size of Egypt + Ireland... Get Lost in the Wilderness. Get an Escort (See above) In short, if you get found while mining on a server with a cap of 50 players, you're doing it wrong and you getting blowed up is all on You, Son. What are you going to do when SALVAGE is in the game? You think they're going to be LESS likely to attack? At that point you're a meal for a starving man. Eventually there will be places that are Safer... Eventually there will be enough of the systems in game that will discourage PvP in these safer zones... No Place will Ever Be 100% Safe (A point Todd Papy made in yesterday's CAD... and that's consistent with what's been said since 2012). Calling for censure and penalties against people whose style of play is perfectly legitimate within the design of the system because it inconveniences you is just wrong. I'm still a Carebear... I still don't like PvP... but I've made a game out of it... By being a really <expletive deleted> slippery <expletive deleted> and not giving them the satisfaction of being a notch on their belt.
