I was inspired by this @Nurseman thread, https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/the-mpuv-c/372312 and wondered if it would be possible for the MPUV-C to carry a single entire 32-SCU container. With the Hull-C and new cargo refactors coming, I think it would be excellent to give the ArcoCargo some more reason to exist, (any reason to exist? lol;) and allow it to carry 32 SCU containers from an orbiting station down to the surface of a planet as a delivery mission. And vice versa. If it were possible, then the ArgoCargo could also simply work around a station in orbit, and transfer bulk goods between capital ships if they needed a resupply. The ArgoCargo is already built around the mudular concept of being able to swap the middle section to different useful adapters. So let's see what a 32SCU cargo adapter might look like! I think this could be made possible. 1) The first issue, was that in order to fit the container under the ArgoCargo, the entire vehicle needs to elevate to the maximum height of the pistons on its landing feet. I think this would work. And maybe even the container itself would touch down on the ground anyway to support its own weight, so the vehicle does not need to hold the container off the ground while landed. 2) The main thing I wanted to check was if the center of gravity makes sense with the long container under the vehicle. It seems to balance perfectly with the main thrusters on the legs in the middle, and the cab of the vehicle sticking out forward. Very nice!:) 3) A slight adjustment would need to be made to the back geometry on the ArgoCargo. There are two notches in the body geometry that stick down, and would need to be filed off or incorporated into the adapter to fit it. The notches seem cosmetic only, so they could be adjusted for this variant, or simply removed on all versions of the Argo-MPUV without a problem. Overall I think this could be made to work. And I think it would add a lot of benefit to the game, not just to Argo-Cargo owners. I think it would look MUCH better around stations in orbit, to see the little ArgoCargos flying back and forth with containers doing their jobs, with NPCs driving them or players if they want to work such a mission to make an extra buck. It would make the verse seem more alive and functional. And much more believeable than the containers just appearing and disappearing like magic. Also since the vehicle is only carrying a single container at a time, it should not impact the usefulness of other dedicated cargo ships like the RAFT. What do you think?
