I don't know how closely most backers follow the PTU cycles in this game-- I suspect not very, unless they're people who actively test on PTU. But for those who did, the 4.8 cycle was extremely rough. Getting EVO off the ground at all was extremely painful with more redlit builds than usual, but that was really just the start. The entire testing cycle was marked by extremely late build deployments and long crunch hours for the live ops team. Multiple builds didn't deploy until well after midnight in Austin, a couple simply never arrived-- no redlight was communicated, just nothing happened until the next morning, to say nothing of several weekends spent working. Even by wave 5 of PTU there was a string of 3 redlit builds in a row the week before live, which is super unusual. Obviously everyone's familiar with the Friday Odin tease leaking over into Saturday and the "Monday" Ironclad ptu drop being late and nonfunctional. We didn't even see an actual release candidate build for 4.8 before live deployment started on Wednesday and went all night into Thursday morning. As someone who follows most of the PTU cycles of the game pretty closely, 4.8's is one of the most concerningly tumultuous and erratic that I've seen in years. That could maybe be chalked up to the defensecon scramble, but the slump once 4.8 went live and the slowness of deploying fixes has been worrying. And the fact that today's 6 hour maintenance turned first into 9 and now going on 12 without any further updates is not really painting a picture of 4.8 being an isolated issue. So my question is, when are CIG-- committed to openness as they are-- going to start communicating about why they're having such a hard time these past few months? What has made this patch so incredibly difficult? We used to get postmortems for these especially bad patches, but it's been pretty quiet other than some intermittent chatter about fixes. I'm sure there's probably explanations, with 4.8 having some subtle but significant backend changes with things like entitlement, but clarity feels needed with it starting to feel like just keeping the PU operational is becoming a serious strain.
