I've tried 3.5 in the PTU and the PU for a short time before, today I decided to play a good 5 hours straight and aside from one 30k crash the server stability was decent though fps were lower than before (I expect because of server stress) but there are some things that are so frustrating that I don't want to "play" this game until they are fixed. 1. Starmap The current Starmap is an atrocity. Unintuitive, clunky, glitchy (sometimes parts of the ship shine through into mobiglass), buggy and only usable from MobiGlass. I know it's in the radar section of the ships but navigating through that is even worse than the MobiGlass Map. 2016 in an ATV we were shown great concepts of a new Starmap and even the ARK starmap is FAR superior to the ingame implementation. How is this not a priority? If it takes much more time to implement it, wouldn't it be a workaround to have your navigation feed in from the Website's star map? Even Alt-Tabbing to plot your course from the Website instead of using this low contrast mess would be a huge QOL-improvement. 2. Inner Thought Also clunky, sometimes unintuitive, not centered on screen (it's "thoughts", why do I have to look at them?), no shortkeys for options (e.g. hold F and press 1-9 for the inner thought options for the selected item or scroll through them with the mouse wheel), bad contrast, needs better highlighting or "snapping" towards points of interest and the text shouldn't scale depending on your distance to the object, because again, these are thoughts, not labels ON the objects and I shouldn't have to physically LOOK at thoughts, those are in my head, not in the world. That's quite the opposite of what was being tried to achieve: immersion. It's not necessary to reinvent the wheel, there are MANY great concepts already out there, here are some examples of great self explanatory context menus: So you could just automatically center the view on the object/point of interest and draw the options around it or just have the context menu appear with a line drawn to the object, the important part is contrast and intuitive use, I don't want to have to look at options. I get that those are no HUD/augmented reality elements but that doesn't mean there can't be a visually appealing option to display them. 3. MFDs in ships I cannot believe that this is still an issue since it's really mostly a camera/control input issue: Why can't I snap my view on MFDs? It already "kinda" does this when I look around and zoom in on one, it just loses the focus when I let go of F, + the scrolling issue (see below). Why can't I center in the view on the MFD and automatically zoom in on them? They are barely readable without a zoom factor anyways so you nearly always have to zoom. Finally: How is zooming and scrolling on MFDs with the same action (mousewheel) still a thing? That's such a pain in the ass. And now with the new flight model you also scroll in your last active MFD while adjusting your speed. Can this PLEASE be fixed? 4. Others Don't want to make this threat too extensive but there are other issues still around that have been for a long time or are new, like low visibility/contrast HUDs bad visual feedback on things like QT-fuel status (a percentage is not a good visual feedback for something that is measured in range), also visual feedback for a low QT tank would be appreciated. loading screens (because that's what QT de facto is right now, 10 minutes+ idle time in some ships for an inner system jump is just a joke), ye I get it, space is big but even games that simulate actual space travel have GAME mechanics that work around that (like time acceleration). Either we need something to do during QT (which single seat fighters do not have), like make it a manual flight instead of just plotting a route and press a button and/or some other gameplay element or these need to be significantly shortened, at least for now. At least 50% of my gameplay is idling in QT right now, this is not immersion, this is bad game design. Still: jittery enemy combat AI in the PU, making dogfights an annoying experience. This is no issue in Arena Commander. Clunky and borderline stupid FPS AI with clunky animations, directional sound issues and all the stuff that comes with it. Twitch mission rarely available. Arccorp and the new moons look good, but once you've seen everything you are stuck in the same gameplay loops as before. At least those should be made less annoying to play. And since the Gimbal System was already kinda adapted from Elite:Dangerous, why not also take their FTL, HUD, Navigation and MFD mechanics? They are simple, fun and they work (I dare to say they are one of the few things I like about E:D). This is of course just my opinion.
