I know the concept may be hard to grasp for some people but for over 30 years, videogames have managed to be hard, high risk, challenging and sometimes even impossible without any PvP. Classics in the 8-bit generation like Ghosts and Goblins, Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Castlevania, even Zelda were games very difficult to complete and some even were the forefathers of cheat codes for that very reason. With the advent of cutting edge newer videogames becoming more and more mainstream, there was indeed a movement to make (PVE) games easier and more accessible to everyone, with a lot of hand holding and extremely easy content but developer FROM SOFTWARE has taken a lot of people back to basics by delivering modern games that were grueling difficult but also extemely exciting, like most in the Souls series. While all of them included some kind of PvP and the general ability to opt in and out, the main allure has always been the difficult boss fights and treacherous maps. To the folks that never programmed one line of code in their lives with the following argument: "AI NPCs will never be as dangerous or cunning as a real player" : This is a myth. I wil say it one more time so you can allow it to sink in: The Cunning real player that is always more difficult than AI is a MYTH. NPC AI can be as easy or impossibly difficult as the programmer chooses it to be. The chance that it will miss a shot, dodge a shot, how fast it reacts, how cheap it counterattacks, how soon it sees you is all programmed and it is programmed to give you whatever experience the programmer wants it to give. So please, for the love of all that is logical, please do not say humans are a better challenge because they are better than NPCs. Any actual programmer can attest to this. It is not a controversial point. So, moving forward, can we all please stop saying all PvE players just want easy mode no risk bullshit activity or that they just want everything handed to them? Easy, hard, risk, no risk have absolutely nothing to do with PvP and PvE and it is painful to see discussions devolve into this argument every time. PvP is not a difficulty level. It just isn't. TLDR: This post is not PRO-PVE or ANTI-PVP and if this is what you understand I am saying, then the problem is you and your personal BIAS. This thread intends to challenge the fact Spectrum (and CIG devs) generally like to associate HARD/RISK with PVP and EASY/DO NOTHING with PVE. I believe that is a fallacy and I challenge that reasoning.
