Greetings all, Just coming off of yesterdays ISC and having scanned over Reddit and Spectrums for its aftermath I guess its save to say that the Community Teams attempt at “multi episode story telling” has failed. In my opinion ISC should not be a show in lieu of the Trevor Noah or Stephen Colbert shows, which it increasingly has turned in to, but it should be a if not THE focal point of distilled information about SC and S42 state of development! As such yesterday ISC completely failed at giving us that information! About 75% of yesterdays ISC has been developers telling us how they came together for a summit, the first time after work from home, and how great it was to see people in person. That’s nice and dandy and am happy the teams can come back together and meet in person. But all of this was irrelevant regarding the actual topic of that ISC – a status update on server meshing! And here is where the mixed messaging aspect that CIG keeps giving starts. In 2019 CitizenCons key note demo ends with an Anvil Carrack jumping to Pyro and the end slide of the event called out for Pyro and server meshing to be “2020 additions” to Star Citizens universe. 2020 was a complete non-year as the pandemic forced everything to go in to shutdown. So I won’t even touch that year, it was tough for everyone on planet earth. But in the end we got through it. In 2021 CitzenCon was a virtual event called “The Road to Pyro” (PR used that slogan throughout the year) and instead of a keynote presentation a Pyro III gameplay demo was shown. It also featured various developer panels, amongst them persistent entity streaming, the replication layer and its importance for server meshing, with static first, dynamic as the end goal. The entire year CIGs PR heavily implies Pyro as a “maybe” but shaky release by the end of that year, to the very least gave the impression it will come sometime in 2022. We arrive at 2022. In May CR writes a Letter of the Chairman and sets the company goal to have PES in Q3 and a first version of static meshing and Pyro in Evocati hands by Q4 of the same year. Neither happened! PES is delayed until late Q4 with CIG attempting to get it released for IAE in November but has to postpone it to a “before X-Mas break” release. PES with 3.18 is still not live! At the very End of 2022 CR writes another Letter of the Chairman and all the goals that were Q4 2022 goals – get server meshing working and Pyro in to backer hands – is officially delayed by him by a full twelve month! Coming full circle to yesterdays ISC – the way that ISC was presented, how it was cut, with the bits and pieces of information scattered between endless fluff talk on how a meeting in the UK took place, we get the impression the CIG teams are - just now - starting to brain storm and plan out on how server meshing should be implemented now that PES has been realized. To sum it up: 2019 - CitCon end slide tells us server meshing is ready in 2020 and Pyro can be added. 2020 - pandemic shutdown, we look past this year. Stuff happened. 2021 - the year of “the road to Pyro”, everything indicates an impeding release in 6 - 12 month. 2022 - in May we get told by the CEO Pyro and server meshing Q4. At the end of Q4 we get told by the CEO server meshing and Pyro maybe a Q4 2023 release. 2023 - yesterday we get told via ISC that work on PLANNING out on how to proceed with work on server meshing was just done in a UK meeting. The mixed messaging is - between 2019 and May 2022 server meshing was at a development point that on multiple occasions the companies PR department via ISC and SCL as well as the CEO himself state an impending server meshing and Pyro release. - In Yesterdays ISC CIG made it sound like work on server meshing implementation has just started! How in 2019 can server meshing be ready for a 2020 release and then suddenly in February 2023 work just started? Zyloh made a comment on how that was not supposed to be the message of yesterdays ISC. He clarified that work on server meshing has long since been conducted and that yesterdays ISC was supposed to be a new approach on how they present information over multiple episodes of ISC. Well – Zyloh and Jared that goal fell flat on its nose as can be seen by the reactions to yesterdays ISC on reddit and spectrum, as well as comments under that ISC YT video; yesterdays TldR to most seems to be - server meshing is YEARS AWAY as planning work on it just started. If that was not the intend, IMHO you guys need to take a real SERIOUS look at your outwards communication! Stop turning ISC and SCL in to the Steve Colbert show! I love Jared, but I do not need to see half of an ISC be taken up by fluff babble between him and developers in a show that is supposed to give backers a substantial update on the current state of SC and S42 development! We do not need to end on a cliff hanger with our collective breaths being held to see next weeks conclusion to maybe then get the information and development update we have been waiting for! The information backers wanted out of a server meshing focused ISC was to hear – are you at this point in time already able to switch servers to travel from Stanton to Pyro via a jump point? And yesterdays ISC did not give that information. AT ALL! The opposite actually happened. As the way that ISC was structured and cut made it seem like work on server meshing has just started now that PES is in and made the “Pyro maybe in Q4 2023” seem to be an impossibility! This after four years on “the road to Pyro”! Beginning with 2019s “server meshing and Pyro are 2020 additions”. TldR: Yesterdays ISC was tone deaf when it comes to the current state of the community. Backers are waiting for Pyro, as you kept dangling it in front of our noses for four years now. Yet you thought it’s a good idea to create an ISC that’s about server meshing, but isn’t telling anything new about it. Stop using ISC (and SCL) as a weekly night time entertainment show! Refocus it on delivering substantial development updates on the current state of tech and content needed to get SC to a release state! Regards HkS73
