Greetings. (This was originally an answer to Peppers „Why SC is so eager into copy EVE Online?” thread but I felt it was its own thing and did not belong there so I made it its own topic) I watched yesterdays SCL when it aired and the moment it ended I was deeply disappointed. This was the Mission Feature Team (MFT) invited over (again) by Jared to talk about everything Mission related (again) - and like last time, all they can talk about was adding combat to missions (again)! Before I get to the core I have to first ask the CIG MFT (again): Why does EVERTHING you add to SC currently - has to have - a combat component? SC was NOT sold to us as "a universe drowned in combat"! But a SciFi mirror of ours. And I do - NOT - have to fight my way through 9 pirates to pick up my UPS package! I've never seen a tow truck get attacked by pirates when they pull a wrecked car away. STOP IT with constant additions of conflict and combat. Its gotten tiersome by now. But the bigger disappointment and reason for this thread was this; Jared asked the MFT “We have MSR and Herald – why are there no data running missions yet” and the MFTs tldr answer was “We could add it. Easily. But we don’t want to fake it!” The hell? FAKE IT! Fake it and get first feedback on this new gameplay loop and how you laid it out. Then start to enhance and iterate on all aspect of this new gameplay loop as the new systems come online! That’s how you build out mining to what it is now. That’s how delivery missions evolved. You expanded them as new stuff came online. But for e.g. Data Running you cannot set up MSRs Data Storage as a form of a secondary cargo hold of say 114 TB? Then have missions that needs use to recover 35TB of data by interacting with a consol at an outpost? That interaction later gets extended to include the new hacking mini game as soon as it becomes available and we need to hack the console first and then download the data? Replace MSRs fake data capacity with actual physicalized "server blades" we can remove, use to donwload data after hacking and add back in, once the assets are ready to be added to the game? That typ of iteration on gameplay is completely impossible now, while it was earlier? How so? I mean let’s be honest here. You guys are the masters of fakeing gameplay for your CitizenCon presentations! See the original Miles Eckhart mission with the back stabbing. The Lier III Sand Worm demo. The Fake ArcCorp and first ever Hurston travel demo. The MT Heist mission demo. You can fake all that, to get us hyped up and throw some more money at you. But when you COULD fake an intended gameplay loop and give your supporters what they ask for – new gameplay and intended use for their ships - then swap out the fake parts and iterate the gameplay over time to eventually become the real thing. You say. No! Can’t do fake content! I mean ... I’ll let a certain Starfleet Admiral answer below what I think of that statement: As always, keep it civil in the comments. Regards HkS73
