Like you did for FPS gear. It was recently stated at Con42 that certain components could be removed from stores and would only be findable in wrecks. I sincerely hope this does not come to pass, it would not be good for the game or for anybody. It hurts the believability of the sim and makes it feel arcadey. Just like the guns, WHY can I not buy these models? They aren't custom made, they're production models made by a corporation. Where did the NPC get it? Why can't I go there and buy it? It hurts Salvage even more because now EVERYONE, even non-salvagers, will be looking for wrecks to strip. And if someone finds you mid-strip? Guess who's getting blown up just to see if there were good components to find? It hurts PvE players because it will cause an even further uptick in piracy. Even ships that previously would provide no value at all will now be scanned to see if they managed to loot some good components, be killed and stripped. It hurts PvP players because now nobody will want to use their now rare components during org events or anything else, because they'll just be wiped from existence if they end up hard-killed (which is far too easy to do) It hurts every player because you know that the efficient and fast quantum drives will be locked behind this loot gate, slowing the game down for literally everyone. Because of all of the above, these components, even if found, will rarely be bothered to be taken out. They will become "too good to use/lose" just like finding rare armors or colors. It's bad for literally every single player and aspect of the game. Please reconsider. EDIT: If you MUST do this, make some new or modified components that are different or better than what we already have available, so it's actually fresh and exciting to find one of these components, rather than making us think "Yay, I finally found this thing I should have had simple access to this entire time."
