Went back to playing Elite: Dangerous because, frankly, I'm bored with SC and the recent monetizing behaviors from CIG have soured me yet again. I hadn't played ED in quite a while and I'd forgotten what an amazing experience it is, especially with the new updates. Mostly, it's reminded me of what direction CIG is NOT pointed in and how many QOL features they don't seem remotely interested in adding in either the short or long term: - SC used to have a skybox that was better than ED -the sense of scale and wonder... now we have pea soup. - An inventory system. That's it... one that works. - Suit lockers!! DO it!! Easy ability to change personal loadouts. - The ability to log out whenever and preserve position and gameplay. I can easily play ED for 30 minutes or any longer amount of time. - Griefer-free play. Solo play or easy switch to open play whenever. - Meaningful linear progression (or progression of any kind) and restored focus on exploration and medical gameplay. - Ship components that matter, are upgradable, and aren't locked behind PVP or paywalls - A flight model that is actually grounded in physics - NPC responses to crime and a decent rep system - Ship and player cosmetics (in game or IRL money) that we actually want. - Quantum boost (ED supercruise and SCO) - planned forever but not yet seen. - Option of cargo autoload for ALL scenarios - Surface vehicles that work and are actually fun to drive (the SRV in ED is a blast!) - A working economy - Working and meaningful factions I think sometimes the only reason I keep coming back to SC is because it's beautiful (better graphics than ED) and I can walk around on my ship. That's it. If ED ever makes it so that you can walk around your ship, I don't think I'd come back, haha. By the way, how much development time for ED? How many developers? How much funding? Hmmmmmmmmm... Feeling milked by CIG... yup. Chat GPT image generation is scary good sometimes...
