The current event is a success among all streamers. They are all rejoicing and competing for the achievement of worlds' first in getting the new reward Polaris. This is the culmination of years of CIG pandering to streamers, devs interacting directly with streamers in their channels and outside (I can provide factual data as I am also part of most discord channels under a different name, though I do not think it is necessary because they will openly admit it). We have an established case of businesses that rely on each other to profit and it has proven quite efficient so do not expect it to change in the next 10 years or so. I will explain: CIG makes large org PvP content that Streamers benefit from streaming and gaining special advantage directly through EVO builds. CIG proceeds to release content, that yet again, streamers dominate, enjoy and make plenty more videos out of. Streamer profits. CIG benefits from "free advertising". Streamer benefits from getting more exclusive content, direct access to dev interaction and being able to "influence development" to get game made to stay precisely like this. Everyone (CIG and streamer + streamer drones) profits from this vicious cycle, rinse and repeat as long as profits increase, everybody wins. This game (and these events) are being made for a community, but it is time to have a serious talk and figure out who exactly that community is. Star Citizen has moved a long way from the original pitch from Chris Roberts and I do not think he is making the game he wants this to be anymore. I think there is a lot of external influence, from marketing, finance and streamers, and we are stuck on a spiral. It is not a death spiral, because money keeps pouring in. I would call it an ignorance spiral or a misdirection spiral, where people continue to buy ships because they think they will be able to enjoy said ship in a type of game that CIG no longer has any interest in making "before 1.0". TLDR: Business plan - Sell ships to the average joe that is excited about exploring, farming, crafting and living a life in the verse. Produce content for streamers that have nothing to do with the ships you just sold to the average joe. Show people having lots of fun in massive Org PvP event. Everyone profits, rinse and repeat. There is no incentive for this loop to change. On the contrary, it seems CIG is scheduling and preparing content so things stay exactly as they are, hence the absolute (strategic) silence from CR.
