So, just read the latest Q&A on the Anvil Valkyrie and I just don't get what the heck you're doing with physics and cargo restrictions. It's like you think a 12 ton APC works according to different physics rules than a box full of apples or something. I mean, I understand ships have different roles and I'll be the first to say I don't want one ship to be the best of everything, but... but... how are you working out a system where vehicles fit in cargo hold cargo grids but cargo can't be put in a vehicle hold because... because of reasons you haven't even though of yet. Because of bullshit fluff that hasn't yet been invented for why a wheeled vehicle that weighs several tons is less likely to shift at high G-loads than a cargo crate. All of which serves a game purpose of... what? Of just making spaceships less fun? I mean, seriously, we've been slaves to "immersion" for how many years now? Like, the characters have got reworked how many times to make sure the first person and third person animations wouldn't look at all different? The game engine had to get rebuilt so that long distance travel between different server shards would be a continuous instance, not a cut? Every painstaking, time consuming step to develop details that almost no one would notice if they were a little faked and now... apparently cargo box physics aren't the same as jeep physics. If you can call the damn Barbie Dune Buggy with only one passenger a "jeep", even. It's the most terrible inefficient way of moving a single passenger, pound for pound, square meter for square meter of bay space... all because of making sure there was enough animation space to carefully move the player model into the seat with no "cheats". And then this godawfully bloated thing can... just teleport aboard a spaceship in transit because you look at a wristwatch hologram... because reasons. You can't jam in an extra two seats with a tiny animation cheat, but you can make a damn jeep teleport. But you can't put a cargo box on the bay floor, the same bay that jeeps and rovers and "space bikes" and infantry on foot can all stand safely on, it won't hold a box of... stuff... because it doesn't have a special magnetic floor that you refuse to install. And it's a damn shame. I got the Valkyrie, it; a beautiful ship, and for once the damn floor plan made sense! It was like a miracle, design had finally gone and figured out how to do an open floor plan, halleluja! Even had the remote turret controls people have been begging for, begging for for years on all these rat pipe maze multicrew ships that lose all their internal room to have some nonfunctional chutes and ladders design to let people walk to manned turrets with useless guns and bathrooms that don't work and more purely decorative lockers than any two large urban highschools would ever need... ships that lose their promised cargo bays and bombers that can't carry crap for bombs and huge ships filled with nothing but turret gunners spaces that have nothing to do outside combat and are damn near not worth having in combat because the guns are so damn small... and the Valkyrie actually made some sense. Easy to get around, no hallways, reasonable gun mounts, good big cargo hold... and, well, then you just say "Whoops, can't have that much fun in a ship! Have to extract it carefully so we can parsimoniously eyedropper it out between a dozen variants somewhere! How could the same box that holds apples hold bananas! How could the same glass that holds juice hold milk? How can the same pocket that holds my housekeys hold my car keys? I need two pairs of pants, my house pants and my car pants, so I can only drive by locking myself outside my house and hiring someone to stay at my house and let me back in later because the keys, they can't go in these pockets together!" I get some restrictions, but purely artificial ones that make ships less fun instead of more fun? Why do that? FFS, just a few months back you put out this big damn behemoth of a ship that move huge tanks and can't carry infantry, now we get a dropship for infantry that can only carry crap vehicles with no passenger space... what is it supposed to achieve? It's like that stupid old puzzle about the boat with the fox, the goat, and the chicken that need to go across the river and you can't leave the wrong two behind, every ship is so damn pigeonholed for what it can carry that you need one of each just to get a few boots on the ground with a ride and a decent snackbox, and all in all I'm back to wondering how it's better than just having each man bring his own single person fighter, if they fight better anyway and everyone needs an airlift to go from here to over there unless they want to hike for hours and hours on these enormous barren worlds until their oxygen runs out... On which topic, why make a spaceship dependent on being in a breathable planetary atmosphere to let the crew out the door without asphyxiating anyone in their bunks? It's like, every other damn ship is getting airshields on their cargo bays and doors, this one can't even get one over the flipping ladder hatch? Why would you not basically expect a spaceship to maybe drop some troops off in space, or a planet with little oxygen? And why can't these enormous flipping capital warships land a damn dropship? I mean, especially look at the Javelin. IT'S SO DAMN HUGE! It can fit, what, 80 players? To run a few turrets and, I don't know, sit on the cafeteria furniture? And all you can get on or off it with is a tiny little single person fighter? Why wouldn't you use a warship for some force projection? Why not move some marines on and off, at least it'd give all those crew a reason to be there! It doesn't have to land heavy bombers or be a fleet carrier, but why the heck can't at least a few ships get on and off, or a decent sized dropship or resupply transport? I mean, for pete's sake, you can't even hitch ships together at airlocks to shift crew back and forth unless everything's dead still, it kinda makes landing space a necessity. But yet... you can't dock ships... but a vehicle doesn't need a cargo lock to tie it in place. Why the hell would anything work that way? I mean, I can understand some ship spawning and vehicle spawning if it's fun for gameplay, even if it isn't perfectly true to life, but why the hell build in these damn restrictions that are neither true to life nor contribute to greater fun in gameplay? Whatever happened to "If it fits it sits"? I just don't get it. Why make ships less fun, and less variable, and less customizable, and less usable, just to basically be obtuse? Why make having fun harder than it should be, particularly in a great big sandbox game that was originally, six years aback, pitched as this great sandbox where we could do everything and enjoy the same ship we customized to our liking along the way? Why make fun hard? Why restrict play choices in ways that aren't fun, and don't make sense per the laws of real world physics? Why build selective fake physics into a game you already bogged down for years trying to rebuild an entire engine to better replicate the real world? It makes no sense.
