I can't be the only one that is seriously confused by the direction the game has taken the past 6 months. Is it a deep and detailed life-in-space sim? Is it an arcade shooter? I certainly don't know. On the one hand you have a lot of sim and survival elements: Food and water requirements are high Hygiene requirements are coming Detailed environmental systems affecting the player, more to come Ships systems are all individually modelled and will need maintenance and repair Simulated vacuum in individual ship rooms is coming All cargo and inventory management is becoming physicalised Travel times are long Mining, the most fleshed out of industrial professions, is detailed and has many layers of complexity for those that wish to delve deep into it Heavy reliance on crew for larger ships and potentially a lot of logistics and planning required to keep these running And on the other hand there appears to be an entirely separate dev team that have given us: Hit markers and killmarkers for FPS combat Sniper glint Long time to kill for FPS combat emphasizing a fast paced run and gun approach Instant respawn in a Nursa outside your FPS destination A flightmodel copied from Starfield, with a heavy reliance on boost Ship combat that is almost entirely reliant on choosing the right ship for the job with enough DPS and shields What I can't understand is that people who enjoy the sim elements, who enjoy all the prep time and the planning and the logistics, are not the type of people that will enjoy the run & gun style combat experience or the neutered flight model. And on the flipside, those looking for fast paced action as promised by the combat models, well they will be tearing their hair out in frustration over all the tedious stuff they need to do to get to that point. We badly need the devs, and preferably Chris Roberts, to sit down with Jared for a few hours and go through how they actually envision this game to play out. At the moment it seems to have enough elements in it to annoy pretty much every single player type out there enough to stop them from playing, which cannot possibly be the goal.
