Note: I should not have used the term FPS, check my comment at the bottom please. This has always been my problem with the promise of space legs. It is a zero sum game and any resources that is put into FPS* takes away from ship based gameplay. Look at all the missions, almost all FPS. They added cargo missions, which you spend most of your time stacking boxes... in FPS mode. You could literally just accept a mission and teleport your character there and the game would be almost completely the same as it is now. What can you do in your ship? How about in-depth scanning, nope. Data links, nope. They even found the need to have salvaging require to get out of our seat and be completely blind to radar btw so we can... stack boxes, fing wat!? Where are the new interesting space based POI in Pyro with things to do from my ship? Oh look an asteroid base, lets... get out of my ship and go explore! Oh, look contested zones are all... you guessed it FPS! The devs do not even talk about ship gameplay anymore. They were going to add engineering, but then to do exactly what with? Industrial is the closest thing we have to ship based gameplay, and they felt the need to add more FPS to that too. I think actual spaceship-based mechanics is hard for people who never played a lot of simulators or old space games. Like if they are not running around with a gun in their hand, they would not even recognize it as a gameplay. I mean look at ED, odyssey almost killed that game, would have been better off completely without it. CIG puts almost all resources into FPS mechanics, 1.0 was almost all about base building and FPS based gameplay. Maybe Eve is the only one who have gotten this right. Did you notice during SQ42 preview how much actual ship gameplay was involved? We are spending all this money on cosmetic trophies. Edit: * I am using FPS in this post as shorthand referring to space legs-based gameplay that is not ship centric. Stuff you have to do inside the ship like engineering I still consider ship-based gameplay. Ugh I really should not have said FPS...
