EDIT 2: Here is a summary after much discussion: 1) Gimbal all hardpoints and eliminate size reduction confusion 2) Add the slider to our computer to "overclock" by decreasing cone size, thus improving DPS at the cost of AG ease (See image from edit 1) 3) At the smallest size the targeting is essentially fixed, with the minor added benefit of gimbal assisted weapon convergence. 4) If we are still allowing a way to go full fixed, then full gimbal can remain as well, just that it would get the full DPS reduction of having a large cone. This replaces the need to down size weapons. 5) Even fixed weapon will need an auto-aim as you won't be able to manually target something that is 15 km range with the inertia of an Idris M, not having auto-aim makes capital weapons useless. 6) Auto-aim being done on server side it will absorb micro-freeze or ping spike and will also add constraints for a cheat program. EDIT 1: This is a quick visualization of the gimbal slider. You choose what's best for you based on what the specific FCS allows. Obviously CIG would decide the numbers, cone size and general balance. ORIGINAL POST: The ONLY solution to AG / Gimballed / Fixed / controller imbalance issue is to use ONE system that can be tailored to the user's needs and play style. Eliminate systems that favour only one control style, so both fixed and gimballed gotta go. Add an FCS system (Fire Control System, taken from Armored Core) where your AG is controlled by a computer that can be swapped out and customized to your needs (FCS in Armored Core, Blades in SC). No more sizing guns up and down since gimballs are pre-installed everywhere, on every ship. Cone size Cone shape lock on time tracking speed general accuracy power consumption ETC can all be variable For instance, a "fixed" player will install an FCS that limits the cone size drastically while increasing the lock on SPEED (instant lock), fire rate and accuracy. This is almost like fixed, very slightly assisted and great for hard hitting fighters. Or someone with a large ship can have a large cone with mediocre accuracy and a reduced fire rate. This will help them to track and fend off targets despite being slow, but many shots will miss. Anyone who tried using a 600i with fixed guns will understand why this makes more sense. Also, a ship like the Freelancer won't be able to equip performance FCS found on fighters, which will greatly help with the current problem of how a Freelancer is a better fighter than a Hornet or Sabre. This is the system that will please EVERYONE, all ship types and all controller styles (even if you don't realize it yet) Every suggestion I've seen so far involves some kind of nerf to favor the commenter's play style, and that is wrong. Stop thinking in terms of "nerfing" all the time.
