Salutations, fellow gamers - my name is Wakish and I'm a badass space pirate :waving_black_flag::skull_and_crossbones: I like taking things that don't belong to me, I like kidnapping unsuspecting players, I like being a sneaky-boi crawling past you onto your ship without being noticed - and most of all I like when people #PayTheirPirates. The people advocating for PvE servers simply do not understand the dichotomy of Star Citizen nor MMO's in general. Don't worry, Pirate Lord Supreme Wakish is here to break it all down for you brotendos out there. Countless MMOs all use the same basic 3-sided structure; there are players who do Professions, players who attempt to Steal from them, and players who are hired to Protect them from the thieves. Miners, cargo haulers, and salvagers are all in that first category, I as a pirate intend to steal your things, and if you're smart you'll have paid a mercenary to protect you from me. Failing to pay for protection increases your odds of being pirated, it's the cost of doing business Star Citizen is not a single player game, that's called Squadron :four::two:. This is an MMO and it's entire gameplay structure is reliant on this 3-sided structure, there is literally no other way around it. You may not like PvP, you don't need to - but the universe you exist in only exists because it's there. If we're a table with 3 legs and you chop one of them off the entire table falls. Splitting PvE and PvP will result in large chunks of players essentially moving to a single player experience; you may think you'd like this at first but within a couple of weeks you'll quickly grow bored and there's no putting that genie back in the lamp. SC's playerbase would circle the drain - the community would fracture, stop caring, and ultimately stop playing Let's use World of Warcraft as an example. WoW used to be the most popular MMO in the world, they used to respect PvP players and provided us with content; Blizzard gave us the freedom to attack other players and never gave in to overly sensitive players who report others just for attacking them. PvP was never the most popular thing in WoW, but it was a cool factor that attracted many - myself included. Over the expansions they slowly stopped making PvP content, removed PvP armor and progression, nerfed every class' coolest PvP abilities, removed 'offensive' emotes, further restricted cross-faction speech, and even allowed you to TOGGLE OFF PVP ON A PVP SERVER - there are many more problems but that for me and many others was the point to call it quits. WoW was already dying at that point but that was the final nail in the coffin. At this point Blizzard doesn't even report player numbers any more. PvP drives players to work together. When you get ganked you complain in trade chat, you rally your guild members, you ask your friends for help - they come to your aid and you create a story together. THAT'S THE GAME, that's literally what an MMO is all about - bringing people together. I'm a rogue that likes to gank people, I'm the boogeyman you rally against - it's fun. When I first started I was a paladin and the first time I was ever stalked through a dark forest by a rogue I felt true terror and it was exhilarating, no npc could have made me feel that and you're robbing yourself by removing this possibility Many of you hate when it's said but I'm going to say it anyways: it's your own fault. If you get pirated because you didn't pay a mercenary to protect you that's your own fault. If you never learn how detection ranges or stealth works it's your fault if you get spotted. If you don't learn the safe or dangerous places to go there's nobody else to blame. Grouping up with others, forming parties, starting guilds, forming connections - that's the point. The scary boogeyman pirates are the darkness that makes you shine brighter together with the power of friendship Brotendos... I'm just a badass space pirate who likes what you've got and wants a piece of it - just #AlwaysPayYourPirate and your outcomes will be much more positive. Pirates don't want to kill you but many don't see any other options. Most industrialists are very aggressive and outright refuse to negotiate, resulting in pirates who know nothing other than violence and pain. If you #PayYourPirate they will in 99% of cases let you go peacefully, the buck stops with you Edit: Some of you don't get it so here's a SUPER SIMPLE ANALOGY. Imagine we're playing Rock :the_horns: Paper :page_with_curl: Scissors ✂, I pick Rock and you decide you just want to go sit alone and play with Scissors - what kind of game is that??? Rock and Paper are useless and you're all by yourself, that's not what MMOs are about Edit 2: Some people are making two contradictory statements simultaneously. Some people are arguing that PvP is unpopular while also claiming that PvPers are such a huge deal we must splinter the servers - how does that make sense? If there are as few PvPers as you claim, roughly 10%, and only about half of them are murderhobos - then why would you need a new server? 90% of players running away from 5% of players? Make that make sense. HIRE A MERCENARY Edit 3: Even when mom and dad fight, it's better for the whole family that we stick together and come to terms with our differences Edit 4: Apparently some people don't like the Rock Paper Scissors analogy; how about we use the Fire Triangle instead? A fire requires 3 variables to ignite: Fuel, Oxygen, and Heat - if you remove a single component there can be no flame, the same way if you remove PvP from Star Citizen it won't be fire :fire: Edit 5: You guys don't seem to understand that pirates steal from industrial players. If CIG splits the servers into PvP and PvE, I as a pirate will just go to the PvE server and find new ways to rob you - and then you won't be able to fight back. You'll be helpless and I'll have all of your stuff, you won't be able to defend yourself. That isn't fun for either of us. Let's not forget the griefers who will also come to the PvE server because you're all just sitting ducks, I guarantee you they'll find ways to mess with you and you won't be able to shoot them Edit 6: Some people in the comments are trying to argue that WoW isn't actually dead because Blizzard still makes money from the players but 1. They do not release their player counts and 2. The majority of that money comes from in-game pet and mount purchases or purchasing gold. These people are only concerned that Blizzard makes a profit, not that WoW is a good game people want to play - there's a difference. When Blizzard sold their first ever real money mount it literally made more money than everything they earned from selling 20 million copies of StarCraft 2. What was the result? They made more mounts and completely stopped making StarCraft. Blizzard got richer and StarCraft is officially dead
