So I have been playing Star Citizen for years, mainly to play out my privateer, Millennium Falcon/Ebon Hawk fantasies. But I find this play style less and less viable as the game goes through development. Let me give an example. The premier exploration vessel in the 'verse is the Carrack. It is without equal, and anyone who wants to argue about any other exploration vessel would be arguing over a very, very distant second place. The Carrack has more firepower, more cargo space, farther range, better defenses, and more reconfigurability than any other explorer. It can hold more vehicles (if it wants, and everyone is really determined, it can fit 6 Merlin Snub fighters in it) than any other explorer. And that's not even my biggest issue with it. It is the only ship, currently, with 3 different facilities: a repair station/room, an ICU, and a drone room. It's the only ship with these facilities, and for no reason. Drones would make a lot of sense on salvage and mining ships, even more so than on the Carrack, which doesn't have a large cargo opening (this is likely to change, but as it is now, my point stands). An ICU makes sense on long range explorers, but CIG's current plans for them don't make a lot of sense, as I'm fairly sure large, independent, multirole ships like the Perseus, a military vessel with independent mission profiles and capabilities, would have, but won't. So then why does the Carrack have it? If you were to say "because its an explorer that is going to be far away from medical facilities" then fine, lets see that sort of thing on other large scale explorers, like the 600i. But that gets pushback too, so then that isn't the reason. Why is it that the Carrack is the only ship with a repair station that, as far as I am aware, will be used for everything from personal gear upkeep to ship upkeep to scavenged parts repair and more, when ships like the 600i and the MSR and even the Aquila have space for it, but no other ship has any place to have one. And people will say that they don't need one. But if that's the case, then exploring with a ship any smaller than a Carrack will be a massive waste of time, the extra facilities on the Carrack won't be very useful, or Exploration won't be very fun in the grand scheme of things. Assuming three things: that Exploration will be fun, that these facilities will be useful to invaluable, and that the ship line up does not significantly change, then its clear that anyone that wants to play solo or with a small group won't be able to really have any fun or viable path for a lot of the roles in game. And when I bring this up, multiple people have told me to "get friends" or "join an org", which is exactly the issue. I have friends, and none of us really like being in large groups. We like exploring in small groups and being on our own. I don't see why there can't be the Millennium Falcon equivalent in Star Citizen: big guns for the pilot, living spaces for comfort, and some working space for whatever the job is. When I pointed out that the MSR wouldn't need that many changes to do this (just larger guns and an interior change) and multiple people told me to change my playstyle instead. And from what I've read, it feels more and more like CIG is going to herd everyone into large orgs and the like instead of fostering wide and differing types of plays.
