Am I the only one who is still bothered by seeing ships floating in atmosphere at any angle? Looks like they're made of styrofoam, just floating and spinning around at any angle with no mass. In the image you can see two Idris's just floating around, you'd think that capital sized ships would actually feel heavy... sad to see this same issue after god knows how many years Edit 01 Nice to hear Cig is aware and working on it :slightly_smiling_face: Edit02 Some common sentiments from the comments: Big ships should not be approachable There should be a learning curve to piloting larger ships Physically motivated propulsion model (without going kerbal) Different ships having their own strengths & weaknesses in different environments More depth to flight, less uniformity in ship behavior Flight too boring/uninteresting Flying spaceships is the main focus of the game, needs to have more challenges. Ships need to have their own personality. More dimensionality to ship lift (standard thursters, VTOL, aerodynamic lift) And some notable quotes about flight behavior "Creating workarounds for workarounds for workarounds to make something approachable isn't productive." - Onatac "Trying to squash the skill curve out of everything in the name of "approachability" is detrimental to the whole game." - DriftwoodBadger "small ships should be fairly easy, and they get gradually more difficult as you climb up in size" - Anach "Make the Aurora and Mustang and other starters dead simple to fly, and don't be afraid to make the more expensive ships more challenging" - Rath McTaren "I don't want my Carrack to handle like a fighter, or even my Connie for that matter. I expect it to be a very slow, risky, and rewarding to land the Kraken." - Anach "Please make the progression of using these ships more than just a grind to get more and more credits" -Viking84 "Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 introduced helicopters (...) still the best helicopters in any game. (...) There wasn't any reason to make helicopters an 'everybody' thing, because there was plenty of 'things' to go around." -Marc HAwke "Make the FM as punishing and as realistic as it can get, because the only thing that ruins the immersion is weirdly flying ships" - m9kz_k "They are not even consistent. For example Idris has more powerful pitch/yaw/roll accelerations than Redeemer" -Atlas And very valid concerns about how long & janky the flight model & general development has been in the past: "it's very hard to trust that there's a plan, or that the plan can be actualized, with how the flight model has been handled for the past ~3-4 years" - Wren "The pre-MM flight model rotted for 2-3 years while we waited for Master Modes because it was pointless to work on when The New Model was coming; now MM is rotting while we wait for yet another New Model" -Wren People just want to know something is being done about a horrible change, but instead of directly addressing it, they seem to try and throw some unrelated new features and hope people just accept or forget" -Mechanized_Jawa "The iterative design loop is just too slow--at least when it comes to the player feedback portion of the loop." - Tomas Kinelli "Share with us, show us what it looks like, how it feels like, otherwise we might end up having to do this 20 times before landing on something "good enough"" -Erosion14 "More than anything, I hope that the model will be able to be iterated on live, not just behind closed doors." -Jimlarck "We witness a T0 of some feature, and then it's crickets for many months or even a year or more without seeing anything else." -Zero Kelvin "All I am hearing is there is a new scapegoat ‘Jesus tech’ required." - Jomanda "CIG have been "working" on atmospheric flight for years as well as the rest of it for years and at this point I thnk its just empty words." -Hawkwar Let's hope Cig hears the community! Plenty of insights in the comments.
