I still remember the day vividly, 10+ years ago. I had three computers running, two internet lines ready, nine shopping carts lined up, and preloaded store credit waiting for the waved release. When the confirmation page finally appeared, on my 3rd attempt, I felt an excitement I can hardly describe. I had secured what was presented as the ultimate opportunity, the largest ship a player could ever own. That was what mattered to me. Not its length in meters, not its turret count, not its stats. The idea itself, that this was the pinnacle of what a player could acquire, is what made me commit. That’s what drove me to pledge such a large sum of money, knowing I might not see this ship in-game for ten or fifteen years. And I did wait. Year after year, I held onto the thought of one day standing on the bridge of that ship. The dream kept me hopeful, patient, and loyal. Now, hearing that a larger class, a battlecruiser is being prepared for sale leaves me feeling crushed. The Javelin is no longer what I believed it to be. The dream I paid for and carried with me all this time is simply gone. And now just another victim of power creep and ship inflation, it will never be for a single day what it was suppose to be. What makes it even harder is how one-sided it feels. I gave CIG my trust, my excitement, and a very large amount of money for something I knew I would not touch for a very very long time. But the reward for that loyalty does not feel reciprocal. It doesn’t feel like there is gratitude for those of us who committed so much, so early, on the basis of what made these ships meaningful. I’m not angry. I’m not here to argue. I just feel deeply sad. I feel let down. For me, the Javelin was never just a collection of stats. It was the dream of having reached the highest peak that would be made available to players. And now, it feels like that dream doesn’t matter like it was never recognized as something meaningful at all. I hope CIG understands that this isn’t just about pixels and polygons, but about the bond of trust and excitement that kept many of us waiting for so many years. When that bond is undermined, it’s not numbers that are lost, it’s the heart of what we believed in.
