Not only are fuses in SC terrible in a diegetic sense (we have circuit breakers today), but why do we have to stock up on yet another item to ensure our ships run at all? Yes, I realize that Engineering gameplay has not been implemented yet, but why do we have to worry about having our ships literally become floating bricks if we didn't bother to stock up on a specific item that is not even universally sold around the 'verse? There are already SO MANY tedious time sinks (i.e. loading crates manually and individually), who seriously believes fuses are fun? It's unnecessary friction. At the very least fuses shouldn't wear down and only have to be replaced if damaged or removed. We can't even check the status of fuses at a glance--we have to look for relays and look to see if they appear worn. Not only that, but as demonstrated on the Idris, all an intruder or a bored teammate needs to do is remove fuses from any one of three critical points on the main deck to completely disable a capital ship. This alone is patently absurd. Besides, if people are going to board a capital ship, they're gonna go for the path of least resistance anyway: destroy power plant or kill the crew. No one is going to target a subcomponent to take down turrets or shields when they can kill the whole ship in one go. CIG's purported design is for components to eventually wear down and need maintenance. Cool, okay, makes sense. But why not make it a minigame instead of having to force us to deal with the already barely-tolerable inventory interface--nevermind, again, having to stock up on multiple items and hunt down relays in addition to dealing with worn components? I thought certain professions or game loops were supposed to be optional, anyway? If anyone agrees with me, please upvote. Hopefully someone at CIG sees that we feel fuses are a truly awful design choice that needs to be removed. Perhaps give us a button to click to activate a timer for "automated repairs" or something like that. Heck, right now, I reckon must of us just go back to ASOP and claim ship, anyway. In my original Reddit post, there has been heated debate regarding solo-players in multicrew ships. This is not about that. I was vexed when my run in an Anvil Asgard was cut short due to my not having fuses on hand. There are other ways to hamper capital ships from being "solo'd" without grinding gameplay to a halt having to micromanage every little thing inside a ship. Besides, is scurrying around trying to replace fuses actually sound fun to anyone? Like I suggested above, give us minigames for engineering or maintenance. If part of the focus this year is on quality of life improvements, then CIG, please reconsider gameplay mechanics that add unnecessary friction to an already bloated experience. I believe enough people agree with me, and I hope people will upvote this post.
