There are some commendable things in 3.23 - like GPU performance improvements which have left most areas in general running much better on my rig. Stability has been surprisingly high with 30k protection as well when things do go pear shaped - another really positive advancement. These are great - but the quality of the gaming experience has been really poor, largely because of the addition of new bugs that have arrived with features, bad UI decision making and the old historic problems that nobody ever seems to grab by the balls. In a short spell this morning where I was running solo (so avoiding all the problems you get when grouping up): Ship spawning issues where there are delays streaming in the ship; locations that failed to materialise - some as big as Grim Hex; an EVA bug where I carried on in EVA even though I'd entered the ship; the new loot system not working at all; the old inventory system working every other Tuesday after a magic coconut Wednesday; missing interactions prompts; badly placed interaction prompts which can't possibly have been tested; NPC ships teleport-spawning right over head seconds after the last batch were removed; ships landed in a hangar (with loot inside) - which didn't register with the ASOP (even though they had refuelled on the pad) and had to be claimed next time I visited the ASOP, losing all the loot; Insta-suffocation causing me damage before I'd taken more than a couple of steps out of a hab. All that before I get to other server performance issues, jank physics that a 1 man indy developer would be embarrassed by and some of the worst UI choices in the history of this game. There has to be a point where this game wakes up and starts baselining playability and delivering to a standard. I'm at my wits end with the way this project is going anyway after 10 years. Glint; bullet sponging; markers for fauna; forgotten concepts; respawn changes just to support an ambulance vehicle sale, regardless of the impact to the profession or other pledges; endless cycles of ship balancing that never leave you comfortable that you've pledged for the right thing. But even if I hate some of the design decisions going on - having a playable game would still be something. Right now, there's just too much wrong with SC to be happy about it. I don't want to see 4.0 - the next set of features which will simultaneously change everything as well as break everything - let alone new ships and concepts. I just want what we have now to work, so that I don't come away from every session thinking 'well that was another monumental waste of time'. What's the plan? How do we take some great fundamentals and actually get it to a state worthy of the elaborate marketing videos that accompany it? I think this picture somehow sums up where we are, so I'll leave it here for you to contemplate.
