Greetings fellow Citizens, Is it just me, or has the last year felt like the creative spirit behind the Persistent Universe has vanished? Many of the recent developments feel uninspired, lacking the bold imagination that once made Star Citizen so compelling: Respawn Refactor The idea of maintaining your gear upon death undermines the very foundation of Death of a Spaceman. If death carries no real consequence, then what's the narrative or gameplay tension in events like Stormbreaker? What’s the point of building lore around respawn dilemmas if all we get is “participate and get a skin for a ship you probably don’t own”? Ship Variants Galore I understand the need to train new artists and designers, and variants are the easiest place to start. But let's be honest—where is the ambition? We used to see game-changing ships like the Reclaimer, the Orion, and the Banu Merchantman. Now? Re-skins, copy-paste designs, and endless small tweaks. Where’s the next awe-inspiring concept? Mission Refactor Yes, legacy missions were built on spaghetti code. Yes, they needed rework. But what we’ve gotten is a stripped-down sandbox: Salvage, Mercenary, Bounty, Hauling—and that’s basically it. Where’s the next Covalex investigation, or something akin to Wake of Disaster? Narrative depth has been replaced with generic task loops. Narrative Regression Old NPCs now float aimlessly in stations, ghostly echoes of a more creative era. Meanwhile, the "Slicers twist" was met with eye-rolls, not intrigue. The dev response? Mocking the player base: “Haha, you fell for it.” Really? That's the storytelling bar now? Add to that the public comments from CIG staff calling PvE players "cowards"—it's insulting. And worrying. Are these the minds writing Squadron 42? If not, where are the actual lore writers? Please bring back people like Cherie Heiberg—at least the narrative had heart and coherence then. This year—supposedly the Year of Stability—has instead become the Year of Mediocrity. Watered-down content. Pointless flair items. “Plushy cargo containers” the size of a cup. ISC and SCL used to be weekly highlights—now they feel like afterthoughts. Where is the spark that once made Star Citizen dream big? I say this not to rant—but because I care. We backed this game for its ambition, not for factory-line content and shallow engagement loops. It’s time to rekindle the fire. What do you think, Citizens? Are we seeing a temporary dip—or a deeper creative drought?
