EDIT: There is certainly a bit contention on what capital ships should be able to endure, so let me take a video from the first recorded tests of mine (I have newer ones, but haven't gotten around to editing them yet) and let me tell you what should have happened on this video. First, the shields should have been holding up much much MUCH longer. I mean, they honestly shouldn't have moved much from all the shooting. Second, when I get back into the Polaris, the armor pool should have said, at the very LOWEST, 90%. But ideally, 100%. Yes, the Polaris should have shrugged off anything the Hornet could have thrown at it, even if I had used a full cannon setup. The caliber from fighter guns should quiet simply be too small to do anything damage at all to a capital. And no, that does not mean that a capital is invulnerable, but it means that if you want to kill a capital, you pull out ships made for it and fighters (with the exceptions of the Ares) are NOT it. _______________________________ When you first announced Engineering and the speculations about how it would affect solo large ship players, I was almost at the brink of writing off the game completely. Not because I don't want to man my ships, when the occasion arises, but from the perspective that if my ship can't survive an onslaught with only me sitting in it, I sure as heck am not going to even bother trying to get anyone else inside it. I want additional people in my ships to be force multipliers, not survival requirements. I accept that solo'ing a big ship, I loose most of the offensive capabilities. But the defensive ones should be tough as nails. Then engineering dropped in Evo and I was blown backwards. My tests with my Super Hornet, Polaris and Perseus showed that a SH kitted with full ballistics couldn't even hurt a shieldless Polaris and barely touch a shielded Perseus and I rejoiced. Finally, multicrew ships back in the game. Because if a Polaris could survive a full ammoload pumped directly into the powerplant with no shields (TMSB-5, 2 x Rev's and 2 x Mantis), what couldn't it do when fully manned. The same with the Perseus. And from there, it went downhill. The Polaris shields got nerfed to oblivion, got a little increase, but is still way too easy for my Super Hornet to kill off. The armor is the same deal. The Perseus. Well.. I don't even bother to take time on how fast a shield phase got reduced and they both blew up rather quickly. The fact that the Medusa cannons could terrorrise the Polaris, shields or not, I found completely fair. After all, the guns where meant for this. The same with the Ares series. It seems that CIG went straight from multicrew ships >> light/medium fighters, back to multicrew < light/medium fighters. Even when it comes to capitals (except the Idris. It was apparently too easy to kill..........) All in all, as there is no reason for me to use my ships, solo or otherwise, I guess I am back into doing some more Elite Dangerous. Too bad, though. This could have been a great patch for multicrew ships, but ended out being yet another one where 5 people in a Hammerhead will never outpace 5 people in light/medium fighters. Que the usual types with their babybottles, etc.
