Of course for Fartnite fans, EVE fans, and for kids who grew up on combat games on consoles anything without combat is boring, but there are players for whom being a successful industry player is just as exciting if not more so. CR stated that SC will have content for all players to enjoy, no matter their skill level. But CIG is turning toward a different direction entirely. I used to laugh at pirates and PVPers exclaiming SC was all about combat and everything else would be secondary, and just be content for their enjoyment. I now agree with them 100% as far as missions go. I will not be surprised one bit if in the future the only real content for peaceful players will only be found on their own far away from any popular places. Watch this video this guy posted about some mission descriptions of new missions that are coming soon. He is praising the fact that salvage, mining, retrieval, and a bunch of other missions will all likely lead to player conflict. ADDENDUM: Then watch the next ISCvideo I have time stamped to start at 10:40 in, to 19:19. They brag of the salvage missions, pause it at the first mobi scene, the mission will give you the exclusive rights to the location of salvage once they receive the money you give them. But, you may get there to find an NPC there already. Another player may get an opposing mission to illegally show up and mine it or fight you for it and they show two Vultures fighting. Then they say waves of their buddies will come after you if you scare them off or kill them, and then it will be you in a Vulture against a Retaliator bomber and 4 Arrows, but if you defeat them you can then salvage at your leisure. BACK ON OP: Yes, CIG is giving us mining missions and salvage missions, but in a way that pits players against other players in direct competition for the depleting salvage and minables. I remember seeing excited posts by backers who could not wait until they get to buy a location of salvage and minables, and go out and mine/salvage them for a profit. Of course there is not going to be a secret location sold to one player, CIG is ensuring that missions in the future lead to almost certain combat. That is fine, but is certainly not how CR described SC. I have been around since the tail end of 3.1 because of what I seen was coming in 3.2 over 2 accounts and although the Reclaimer and the start of salvaging is what suckered me in my main dream was passenger missions. Of course I fell for the carrot dangling in my face, the awesome and massive Reclaimer, with the salvage coming in with the next update. But I am already for seeing the future of passenger missions. There may be some safer runs that pay crap, but most missions will spawn hostile NPCs looking for rich tourists, rich passengers, that like Jared has explained about salvage missions, where NPCs will likely attack and if you escape or disable them will call all their buddies for back-up and chase you relentlessly. In addition to there being counter missions for other players who will be paid to take you out. And with some missions the mission will be widely available to all takers and we can fight amongst ourselves to see who will pass/fail the missions. This sounds awesome for Fartnite and EVE players, but it is a far cry from anything CR initially pitched to future backers. It is shaping up to be all combat all the time, and if you are not into combat you are just content for those who are. I hope I am wrong. I must admit though, 23 years ago before my C-spine injury I'd have been all for something like that I am sure. I never have owned a single console so never got into all the fighting style games as a youngster. Not all of my ships are giftable so I am stuck with some of them, so I guess I am stuck and being dragged along for the ride lol. I am happy with SC at times, but CIG folks in videos waxing on and on about all the forced combat does not excite me very much lol. Whatever happens happens and if it is not enjoyable there are many other things that are. Maybe there will be salvage, mining, and passenger missions that do not show for other players and are not only to lead you to exciting and immersive combat, surely they do not think that any mission without forced combat will be too boring and not be utilized so they MUST DICTATE that every single future mission lead into conflict with other players and NPCs. A chance of an encounter is great, but if every single mission results in being attacked by waves of players or NPCs in combat ships that are fast while you are in a slow ship with pea shooters I don't see how anyone thinks that that, 100% of the time, is fun, exciting, and immersive.
