First off, all of this drama about the Idris being multi-crew only is a psyop. People just want to reduce competition in the F5 war. I have flown a solo Idris and Polaris exclusively since the ships launched. I have scanned almost every Idris I've come across and I can tell you that the vast majority of Idris out there are solo. If crewed it's no more than 3 people. Crewed or not crewed the ship is amazing. It's a straight op-out of PvP unless you leave the hangar open to get boarded or they bring a small fleet to kill you. This is as it should be, these are big personal bases holding a ton of ships and important stuff. The giant death laser is insanely fun to use and the utility offered by the ship to even a solo pilot is unmatched. Most of the time, I see these ships out there being used as a personal base by a player. They are filled with utility ships for performing various jobs. I highly doubt this will be removed. While I do think that engineering will make managing ships harder, the systems that we have been previewing very obviously show that the extreme difficulty of managing a large ship solo only comes into play when you start taking heavy damage and multiple systems start failing. This means that if you are solo, you still have to pick and choose your battles. You still have to know your limits as a solo pilot in a large ship because you have a lot of ship to manage. To me, crew is supplementary and when you load more people into a large ship effectiveness rises and you can handle more extreme risk that wouldn't be difficult or impractical solo. But piloting an Idris solo in general? its absolutely doable, you just can't do as much as you can with a crew - and that is fine. While people are going to mald over this, low crew/solo large ships are a part of the game until CiG says they are not. And with that we have an ecosystem where the majority of the players flying large ships do so solo or with skeleton crews. The longer this goes on, the more it becomes standard -and the harder it becomes to remove. At this point it solo captaining large ships is so established that removing it right now would cause SCs most extreme backers to burn down the game. Because at the end of the day, the people who fly large ships in this manner are the foundational pillars and largest supporting backers of the project. And the reality is that if you take away their fun, they will destroy you. So no, I don't think people should be discouraged from flying large ships as personal bases solo or with low crew. I think the backlash of them trying to remove this option is already too great. And the people telling you that large ship fun is only for orgs are gaslighting you, because they are probably solo captains themselves just trying to psyop you out of the F5 war.
