For some reason this topic comes up from time to time in Concierge chat. So, I want to see if you guys would mind giving me your feedback. Would you pay for a game pack and a monthly fee to play the game? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GATHERED INFO (bold and underline added for emphasis): (I want to thank everyone who helped with this discussion constructively, and with providing solid info in regards.) Letter From the Chairman (2018): "Developing and operating a game of Star Citizen’s ambition is expensive. From day one of the campaign we’ve been quite clear on the economic model for Star Citizen, which is to not require a subscription like many MMOs, but instead rely on sales of initial game packages and in-game money to fund development and online running costs. To ensure money isn’t a deciding factor in progression, the core principle that the game follows is that everything you can obtain with real money, outside of your initial game package, can also be earned in game via normal and fun gameplay. There will also be plenty of things that can only be earned by playing." - under UEC section, third paragraph https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/16700-Letter-From-The-Chairman Kickstarter: "[...] we needed to sit back and figure out how to do this in a way that doesn’t violate our core principals. To that end, we want to make clear that there will NEVER be a subscription needed to play Star Citizen. Once you have backed you should not be have to spend extra money to play the game. Similarly, Star Citizen will never be ‘pay to win,’ so we are not going to offer a subscription plan that gives some users special equipment or additional money or any kind of edge in combat. We feel strongly that everything that affects gameplay can be earned in game via your actions." - found under Subscriptions section - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen/posts/351281 We can see, from the feedback below, that the community further emphasizes the desire for freedom to choose if we pay for a subscription or not with votes for and against required subscriptions.
