I just want to start this by saying: this is not a rant against the new combat content we got in the past and are getting in the future. I've tried the new space combat missions this patch and had a lot of fun with them. And I'm not against getting even more combat content and activities in 4.2. Combat (and yes, even PvP) is an important part of this game. Always as been, and always will be. With that being said... It is important to remind the devs that the game is called Star CITIZEN. Not Star PRIVATEER. Meaning, this is a sandbox game not just for the combat enthusiasts. But for the explorer, the salvager, the miner, the space trucker, the investigator, the medic, etc... I'm not going to throw in made-up numbers, but I think it goes without saying that there is a significant portion of your player base that wants to engage in meaningful and rewarding non-combat loops and progression. While it is true that we have some core non-combat gameplay loops such as mining, hauling, salvaging... These activities lack variety, but more importantly, they lack a compelling progression loop. These could (and should) be improved by using the very underused reputation system. Using it to unlock special narrative missions to engage the player and give them cool rewards like skins (IE: Covalex skins for most hauling ships) and perks (discounts to certain items or access to special shops). Furthermore, there are certain ships that have their gameplay but no content available to use them. Example 1: Fuel-hauling missions using the Starfarer. Since it makes sense that space stations and outposts need to be resupplied with fuel (Like gas stations are IRL). Why is this still not a thing? No idea. Example 2 : Missions that require an SRV to move a small shipwreck to a graveyard. Or how about a great comeback for investigation missions? We now have the much improved EVA system, which offers so many cool investigation mission scenario opportunities. (Explore a derelict ship; try to find clues to find out what happened. Was it an accident? Sabotage? Murder?). You've got the tech to do new stuff with this, and so far have done nothing. Since the year began, the only new non-combat content we got was the "supply or die" event... Which was cool and even finally introduced a new mission type (Mining missions), but... it's no longer available (What a wonderful idea it was to do "One time" events.) And then we were supposed to get a new "Mining" oriented sandbox activity in the form of Hartor. Which, surprise! Suprise... was mostly combat-oriented with PvP attached. The new regen Crisis storyline should be a gold mine for non-combat players, and yet... Every single new addition to that storyline is combat-oriented. This is not a rant. I'm genuinely reminding the devs that the game is called Star Citizen. And despite Jared stating that they try to balance between Non-Combat and combat content, I have yet to see that in action this year (despite constant demands from a lot of backers) Keep improving and adding to combat, but remember that your community is diverse in the activities they want to take part in. And so far, you seem to only cater to one specific group. You have so many opportunities to improve the non-combat experience without "waiting for new tech". You just have to be willing to take that step.
