Star Citizen is adopting instancing for two reasons it seems: 1. The game runs poorly and instances may alleviate some performance issues 2. Themepark content If the game was engineered better (see recent Benoit SCL) and CIG stuck to focusing on a sandbox instead of making themepark content, there would be no need for instancing Instancing is a symptom of how poorly managed and derailed this project became. The promised scale of the sandbox just keeps getting smaller and more locked down over time edit: interesting to observe the comments. Most people against instancing are able to articulate why they think it negatively impacts gameplay, with the primary reason being that the sandbox in this game has been left to wither thanks to instancing, the watered down looting mechanics, the coming teleport to party leader, and other disappointing changes that diminish interaction with the sandbox. Yet many (not all, ty btw) of the people for instancing are not talking about the game at all and just disagreeing by calling others “griefers”, “gankers”, etc. Is this what spectrum discourse has become? You can observe it for yourself in the comments below. In any case it’s evident many people feel that the game is changing for the worse. It sucks we get instancing before major sandbox gameplay systems were ever implemented and tried, like a proper crime system
